Try Salvo, but its most likely just seized up ,try taking the tail gate cover off and lubricating the linkage 1st.
Well done on a bargain purchase!

Being honest I had just bought my T5 realized there was power to it and took it back to the garage for a new one, and im not sure what they used , I reckon wd40 would be a quick fix after a good soak for a few minutes dont know if it would be putting some grease on once its working for long term lubrication.
If you move the wiper manually on the screen with it turned on that can free it off for the short term!

Lance is right.

Just had the same problem with mine.
I was going to shell out for a new motor, but decided to try moving the blade by hand....

Had to knock the spindle out where it passes throuth a bush in the aluminium frame, clean it up with emery cloth, re-greased everything and all is well.

Good thread guys, Tallpointy, do you fancy doing a short tutorial for the technical database ? Its just that its come up a few times now, and you lot have avoided buying new, so i think it has a place there.

Cheers

I tried wd40 on mine but it was too badly seized. In the end I had to Knock the shaft out of the aluminium casting it passes through with a hammer. Once cleaned up, greased and put back in it works like a swiss watch again.

Yup, once you take the trim off the tailgate you will see the motor and its linkages attached to an aluminium braket. The spindle for the wiper passes through the casting and because of water leakage, corrodes the aluminium and gums up the spindle. On my car is was that bad that taking it appart and re greasing was the only option, not had a problem since.

You can tell if its seized by switching on the rear wiper, then get out and try and move the arm with your hand. If it then works briefly with your assistance then its gonna need a proper clean up as described.

Jesus..from the remark above, doesn't sound like u r a mechanic or mechanically minded!! Anyways, mine stopped working last year. Stripped it all out from rear window. The little black boot that covers the shaft had split and over a period of time allows all the water and ingress in..end result SEIZED!!! (BTW you cant turn the shaft by hand!!!! even if it is new!)

Go to volvo main agent and buy a seal kit for the rear wiper (very cheap).
derust and wire brush the shaft and apply copius amounts of grease b4 reassembly.

Unless the motor is burnt out i garantee u it will be ok!

All sorted it. It had seized. removed the linkage and cleaned and greased it. Put it all back together and it worked fine !!

Saved some money there. Cheers people :)

I had the same problem - I thought I needed a new motor, but when I took the motor off it was fine - the linkage had siezed where ot goes through the glass. I managed to get a now plats & linkage.

I AM NOW BREAKING MY BELOVED T5 FOLLOWING STORM DAMAGE (I live near Carlisle !!!) so the full linkage, and motor if wanted will be for sale.

I have stripped them off, and plan to put them on e-bay on Thursday for a 10 day auction along with the front wipers / motor, air con Fan & Motor etc.....

I already have loads of parts on there due to end this Sunday. - Bumpers, switches, headlights, etc... I sold alot last week, but am stripping gradually so putting new bits on most Thursdays at the moment.

If interested look on E-Bay under Automotive // Car Parts By Brand // Volvo and all my parts are listed with the words Volvo 850 in the title so you can search on that.

Please put the word out - I need to raise as much cash as possible towards my next brick !

Thanks
