Hi guys im after moving the battery to the boot of the 850, any hints and tips i could get?

Going to use the main positive cable from the S60 and also the battery as its huge so those bits are sorted

Questions I have are:

Whats the best connections to use for the live, like a junction box etc

What to do with the earth from where the battery is currently located?

Do I get a new earth in the rear on the car? Or do I also need to extend the earth from the front of the car?

Thanks in advance

Daz

Thanks Colin, am I right in thinking you have done this? What did you use as a junction for the live mate?

If I remember I'll try to go out and take a photo tomorrow of the type of junction box I used.
Mine sits behind the passenger seat..

Volvo only use 16mm cable from the battery to the starter motor then to the alternator, If you put the battery in the boot and run 16mm cable the stater motor will not be able to pull enough current to work properly. I would use a minium of 50mm cable with no joints and I would also run the earth to the engine block then to the bodywork.
When I turned my battery it got rewired with 70mm cable which is what volvo use on the S60 and V70`s

You sure you got ur measurements right dude 50 and 70mm? 50mm is 2" and 70mm is 2 3/4" thats some impressive cable

oops it should be 50mm squared and 70mm squared :)

50mm squared cable is 9.27mm in diameter

70mm squared cable is 10.9mm in diameter

Yep make sure you earth the battery in the boot and also make a earth up from the block to the body.

I have made a few kits for other cars and tend to use 135amp continues draw cable.

Keep earths short and thick and make sure they go to nice sized bolt holes

Iv got the junction box from the S60 and the live from the boot to the front, the junction box has fuses in them, should I remove them?

I would assume the fuses are to protect certain circuits, such as main feed to small fuse box, ecu, etc

If so I would leave them in place , in not familiar with Volvo electrics so don't take that as gospel

Has any one ever utilised a ground earth kit to improve the engine earths like are so popular on the japenese seen with the likes of hks and spoon making them?

I used 25mm squared on mine with 150amp mega fuses at either end of the cable, the live runs to a centre point.
