View Full Version : Mid Wales garage recommendation to read codes-Lambda light on.

Hi Guys

I'm running a 1998 V40 T4, it's always run well, 34mpg average, SERIOUS boost but has started ticking over unevenly, average mpg now 30 & dropping, still boosts very nicely, no obvious drop in performance although occasionally misses now on medium to wide throttle openings, no smoke or anything but the Lambda light has just come on.

So, rather than guess away & start replacing everything it could be (I guess MAF, Coil pack, Lambda sensors themselves?) I'd like to take it to a sensibly priced specialist & get the codes read, anyone got a recommendation in the Mid-Wales area?

Many Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

There are a few guys around mid Wales/Shropshire who might have some suggestions. Someone will be along soon.

In the meantime post some pics of your Volvo :D

Have you changed your plugs mate and it sounds like one of your coil packs are going down .the are only 2 on these cars so I would change them .

Thanks guys, I'm not super computer literate so will try to post car pictures but not sure if I'll get there! Yes will try plugs at least, all I've ever done is oil & filters so probably due, last spark plug change at 50k miles, now on 90k with full fsh, sound about right for the coil packs expiring?

Thanks Smithy, got both Coil Packs for price of one on a EuroCP special deal, replaced all sparks & it runs like a beut. The coil pack immediately behind the oil filler neck was oily as hell & the insulation had started to break up around it. Looks like a cack handed former owner or garage monkey had slopped some oil when topping up. Anyway thanks for your help.

I had a problem like that and found out the plug going into my idle control valve had come off. Plugged it back in and was fine. Could be something as simple as this??
