View Full Version : 850R needed for Fifth Gear TV show filming

Hi All

I'm writing from the TV show Fifth Gear which is now on discovery Channel.
We are filming a long running section of the show in which we look at various best buy examples of used cars.

We are looking to feature a Volvo 850R as a great used estate car to feature an episode.

We are filming the feature with Tiff Needell on the 19th September 2013 in Coventry, West Midlands.

Filming usually takes place from 8am until about 7pm and we would happily cover anyone expenses if they were interested in being involved? Please note we are only able to film the car, and rest assured its not a comparison, test or head to head. There will be no racing, ragging or driving the car hard, simply a variety of static shots and some driving on public roads - just like this -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E6IWgdonCc

If anyone is interested please get in touch, if you can also give me a rough indication of where you are based also this will help.

Please don't doubt that this is a genuine request, please check out this recent forum/post in which we did the same thing....

Many thanks for all your help

Sadly, due to forum rules, I can see this thread being pulled within 10 minutes...

Why? Same sort of approach was made by classic car magazine which ended in me having my car featured :)
Shame I haven't got a 850r, modified 850 t5r any good to you

That would be a shame, fingers crossed it doesn't.
These threads are dotted all over the net and usually provide a great discussions and a buzz. Genuinely we are in support of the 850R and would like to have one on the show. What better place to start than here...

Hope someone can help

Cheers

Hi Folks

just want to say you've been a great bunch, really appreciate your help, its looks like I've got a excellent Red 850 R lined up directly from here...I'm sure some photos will go up after the shoot from the proud owner.

Thanks so much!!

BTW new series of Fifth Gear starts Monday 16th September at 8pm on Discovery Channel/HD but the section we are filming next week will air in the next series early 2014..

Never look a gifthorse in the mouth - it's the other end that feeds the rhubarb ;)

bit of a price difference between running a 2nd car and upgrading the telly package but if you got rid of your hairdressers car and ran a starlet, you could afford 2 Tivo boxes with the full package too ;)

F*****g b*****d car, it's been perfect all week and the day it's supposed to shine, it has a nightmare, flat battery at 6am pushing it down the road to start, it wouldn't start in some off the filming parts, and in the last bit it threw up the lamba/engine light and I lost boost..... 8psi, what the F**k can you do with 8psi, nothing that's what. Sometimes I hate old cars.

But on a plus side it looked good on the camera, I have loads of pictures, the crew seemed happy with it, Tiff was grinning after the first few runs so all was not lost.

And do you know what it's being compared to as a cheap alternative????
Transit van!!!! Yep if you don't want to pay £26000 for a transit van you could by a Volvo 850R, a Subaru Legacy Spec B or an Audi RS6 instead from as little as £1500...

Yes mate, had a good chat about work and things, but mainly about old touring car races between him and lammers in the Volvo.

You guys must have had lots to talk about. Did u tell the RS6 driver you use to have one

Had a good chat about them, I told him his brakes were on way out and then told him the cost, he didn't look happy. it sounded awesome and went like a rocket.

I.I.R.C. he drove a Nissan Primera in the BTCC, can't remember him doing that well, but I was more interested in Paul Radisich in the Ford Mondeo, who missed out on the title because of the Alfa team cheating.

Volvo didn't exactly do brilliantly their first year so Tiff must of been fighting with Lammers at the back lol

So what did Tiff make of your car??

I think he was a little impressed, mainly because it started everytime for him. His first words were, "well that goes well" that's good enough for me.

Looks like an Excellent day out despite the hi-cups and set backs. I dare say there are a few who are Jealous of the event. Getting your car on Fifth Gear is an achievement of its own let alone spending a day with a touring car legend!

Definitely the most immaculate estate for the job though, nice one Neal :)

What a quality sounding way to spend the day, troubles aside I'm sure the positives far outweighed the little running hiccups! :)
