My 2003 v70 t5 does not have a belly pan splash guard under the engine , there are threaded captive nuts in the subframe but no under engine panel , should the car have a belly pan or is there a good reason e.g turbo cooling for it not having one.?
I could make one up in alloy sheet if it should be here.

It's not your wife's car that needs a belly pan, it's her husband !

its mainly to keep road noise out the car....more of a diesel part

I would say its more to keep the

water and all the salt from the

roads we have over winter , I had a

fiat work van with its belly pan

off over 1 winter when I did a

service on the van the damage

underneath was bad rust everywhere

I would suggest you get 1 before

are nasty winter sets in .

Mine's supposed to have a metal one but it'll just make it harder to work on the car so I just can't be arsed with replacing it.

If this winter is anything like last one ,the roads up here will be salted for months, I think I will make one up from chequer plate alloy to keep crap out of engine bay , I just wondered if there was some reason like airflow round turbo why it should not have one, if it is optional i think I'd rather have one. It's ok for you soft southern bxxxxrds to run about all winter with your nether regions exposed . It gets seriously cold up here.

my belly pan has air scoops in it which I think is right under the turbo.

No receipts for purchase in the thorough history so I'd take a guess that it had it from the factory. Will look under d5 tomorrow and see what that has

My D5's got one...I'd just like a shiny metal one.

I reckon most of these are removed by mechanics and are forgot to be refitted afterwards.

The under trays are an accessory fitment for the petrol models and are not rec for the turbos or awd models . Presumably a heat thing ,

Correct. However, mine has had an alloy one on it for over two years with absolutely no problems. TBH, i'd rather protect the sump which costs over £400 if damaged. Also, the alloy plates have cooling vents unlike the crappy plastic ones, which eventually go brittle, crack and fall off. Also, they won't protect the sump if you hit a metal object or a brick lying in the middle of the road that's fallen off a lorry!
You should see the scrape marks and scratches on mine from road debris.

Where did you get yours from ? ,I was considering making one up out of chequer plate but was a bit worried turbo and down pipe might get too hot, the air low things on yours look like the answer. The roads up here are really crap and all sorts of rubble and debris gets thrown up under the car ,also loads of road salting in he winter.

M-R-P

You'll find that the subframe takes most of the impact from things like potholes, with only minor damage to the sump, as I found when dropping the front end of the Sweed down 2 paralell potholes, shortly after lowering it...
