View Full Version : Dashboard DTC 'Set' Messages

I've used the 'hidden' diagnostic tool on the car this morning (press read followed my the rear fog lamp button twice), and I got the following letters followed by "DTC Set". Is this normal or have I got a whole bunch of electrical issues.......

ECM (errrr, throttle body!?) :scared:
CEM
CCM
PSM
REM

I have 'checking' messages for....

DDM
PDM
VEM

What the heck does all this translate to? Anyone with some knowledge of these codes would be useful. I assume the 'M' stands for module? I'm hoping to shed some light on why the car won't start properly and why my boost keeps dropping off and surging, I'm pretty sure the later is down to an ETM fault, the same as Leeds_Finest (Ed) had on his.

Errrrr there's a list somewhere on the forum but I'd recommend never doing that again! Mine comes up with a load of crap that is mainly irrelevant to my car (stereo etc). the problem with ti is it'll not just show a fault but show if there's been a fault, even a small glitch which sorted itself in seconds, so it'll be telling you things are wrong when in actual fact they're probably fine.

Looking at the codes, they all end in 'M' this is not for module but Micra, it is telling you that you are no longer qualified to drive a Volvo and should px it at the earliest opertunity, for Nissans finest,

MRP in a ££££let, James in a Micra, what is this, get the biggest blokes in the smallest cars? Does it work in reverse? Should Frankie get something like a X5, oh hang on.

Previous or current airbag or seatbelt fault

M-R-P
Wednesday 21st August 2013, 10:50
FWIW, "Set" means there's a fault. "checking" means just that but not all modules finish checking for some reason and "ready" means it's checked the module and is happy there's no problems with it.

Ah right I know about that, so I have only 1 problem? (Can't see that lol)

Did you keep pressing the read button to cycle through the modules?

So, in answer to the OP...

James you have or have had faults with your ECU (ECM), Central Electronic Module (CEM), Climate control (CCM),Front seat module (PSM) and your rear electric module (REM).
Remember, these may only be intermittent faults that have cleared themselves or may be current.

James, you really need to invest in Vida and a DICE. They are roughly £100 on the bay and will answer most if not all of your electrical questions. there is even something on there to reset the throttle as well so if you are having ETM errors you should be able to sort them.
It is a cracking bit of kit.
If you was closer you could happily come and plug it into mine and see what they all say

Some of the codes could be from ages ago, just stored to help diagnose any faults.

* CEM - Central electric module
* PSM - Power seat module.

sorry to be pathetic but i like attention to detail .

normally, all cars have loads of fault codes if they have not been to a dealer in a while, what is needed is to get down to ones with are current or just logged.
the button reading method unfortunately only gives a brief glimpse.

Thanks that's very useful, at least I now know where current/previous issues are. ECM bothers me the most because that's the ECU!

This is where that Volvo software would come in handy.

I spotted dice/vida on fleabay for 65 quid but it looks a bit dodgy coming from hongkong.

£100 well spent but I think you need Windows XP to run it, it doesn't like Windows 7 from what I've heard.

I'm expecting a little mod input regarding VIDA/DICE software from the Far East ;) or is that me being cynical :) lol

That's why I didn't link nuffink ;)

There's supposed to be a software patch to get it running on vista and win7 but cheap XP lappys aren't hard to find, I've been using one as a footrest under my desk for 18 months lol.

scrolled thru & i wasn't far off getting a full house. REM just said checking, & "can't read AUM" which i'm guess is because i've got an aftermarket headunit in. All the other modules have got issues lol

James, I bought a panasonic cf29 toughbook of eBay. Runs on XP SP3 but only has 1.5gb ram. Works fine but is a little slow loading VIDA
does the job for me though

until the codes build up enough that the ECU decides its too dangerous to allow the engine to start they'll be fine as they are lol

Not really unless you own a subscription to the software,to advertise you have a COPY.

I don't trust these cheap knock-off version on fleabay, there's every chance it's fake. The best option is to get the genuine article from a closed down dealers or indy specialist - I have seen them going on ebay before!

When was the last time you saw a thread get stickied?

I think they've lost the button.

Doesn't seem to end to countless 'copys' being sold on the internet....can't imagine Copyright Tactical Team kicking my door in at 04.30.

Perhaps it was a bad idea....how many folk on here have the Genuine Software I wonder?

Why not? It is just a bit of computer software and a box of tricks to read the codes. And, were you not tempted to get a 'cheap knock off' MAF a while back!!! I bet everyone on here has some sort of dodgy software on their computer or a knock off product in their house................

LOL, none I bet!!

Not true. I have Win 7 and patched free off the net. No probs. (VIDA 2012A anyway)

What make me think is why all the sellers of the software are in the far east, why isn't there stacks of UK based suppliers selling this. There is a seller offering a laptop and 'dealership level' Vida for £699...... :D

You don't need Dealer Level VIDA. It is no different to what I and others have got. The only difference between us and a dealer is the annual subscription. That enables you to download software. THAT is what costs an awful lot of money!!:scared:

Cardiag do one for £85. I've had one from there and another from a fellow forum member. Both were copies and both worked perfectly well. I currently have Vida 2012d. I wouldn't be without one - it costs less than a couple of trips to a dealer for codes. It's a no-brainer.

Oh, why don't we organise a couple of 'Vida Meets' so members can help other members with their diagnostics. :D
