No braking power from startup.

I have searched to no avail, on startup and first use of the brakes there's no power at all you have to really stand on them, then after a short while their fine again.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the vacuum hose to the servo may be loose, or have a leak.

or the non return valve might have failed

Currently trawling through all the info on the Internet, seems to be a known fault and cars were recalled to Volvo for it so checking on that, seems there may be an electric pressure pump that stops working for various reason including a switch on said hose or pump failure it's self.

Problem I have is I don't have access to the car all the time as the wife works away and comes home when I'm off weekends (I'm a shift worker)

On another note anyone recommend a Volvo independant in the Milton Keynes area in case she needs to take it in.
