Need some advice on tyre sizes. I need two new tyres and I have 205/40r17 on the front and 225/45r17 on the back but having looked around everyone says it should be 205/45r17 all round. Even the sites that use the car reg say this but the rears are wider apparently. Its standard R alloys so I'm a bit confused now lol. Any help would be great folks.

That would depend in what "R" wheels you mean on what car mate but as a rule of thumb, they should all be the same size.

What alloys are they? I'm assuming you're talking p1? If so, then the tyre size you want to run is 215/45/17 all round.

As you have it at the moment, the rolling radius is hugely different front to back. The §§§§ end must be right up compared to the front!

its the volans on my 850r and its the tyres i got it with, i thought it was strange having higher profile on the rear but its 225's i don't get. I didn't think you could put a wider tyre on a rim made for 205's. What should i go with?

I personally would run 215/45/17. That's what I ran for years on my S70. You could run 205/45/17's I suppose if you preferred.

Thinking about it, I think the factory size might be 205/45. But I would still run 215/45's if it were my car. More width, so more grip. And a marginally higher side wall, so fills the arches better, and slightly more comfy ride(??) Theoretically!

So it is okay to fit wider rubber than standard then? For some reason I didn't think you could. Cheers for that :D

Absolutely no problems with 215's. For the last couple of years I was running 235/40/17's on my S70!
