Looking at front discs and pads for my 2000 reg, Ph2 V70 2.3 T5.

Seems to be about 3 different types of discs and pads available. If it comes to it, I'll whip a wheel off and try to measure one of my discs, but I was rather hoping that the knowledge exists on here and somebody could give me a simple answer about what I'm looking for. I would have assumed that different types were dependant on year or spec, but it seems really unclear when looking for the parts online.

If it's got 16 or 17 inch wheels, then it'll have 305mm discs.

Been there, done that, fekked it up! Cost me time, money and aggro.

Not all of them. Mine has 316mm:confused:

What you need to do is give Jamie at Parts for Volvos online a ring or an email. He will take your reg. and TELL you what you have got. That will save you having to listen to everyones speculation and will save you the hassle of taking a wheel off and cocking up the measurement!!
When he has told you what you need, there are some good options on there for you.

2005 2.4 T5 V70.
Even Jamie was scratching his head. I think they are officially listed as 16.5 inch.
I bought the 305mm from my local factors as that was my kakhanded effort at measuring them with them still on the car. It was only when I put the calipers back on that I thought..............hang on a minute!!!!

that pic of my style is just for reference-not actually mine...
yours look bigger because of big carrier on around the caliper. id bet pistons are same

Well if it makes any difference, my front discs have the additional vents around the hub.

the larger caliper mentioned is actually the smaller one from an xc90 when those have 316mm discs from 2007 on.

i have a customer with a 2006 xc70 and he is upgrading his brakes to fit xc90 brakes front 336mm.

the 336mm caliper is not a straight fit- he needs to change both the stub axles and lower ball joints, (ball joint shaft different sizes ) then we found out that the lower arm might have a difference as well ......... so at present even if he can find a lh stub axle, he needs to resolve the problem of the larger ball joint locating into the lower arm.

Wouldn't it have been easier to fit P2 R brakes.

suppose it might have been. i guess it is availability of the parts- many more xc90's around to get the bits from.

Thanks to those of you who helped with the initial clarification of my disc size before this topic went off on an (albeit still relevent) tangent :haha:

So I now know that I need discs suitable for 16" wheels. This makes sense, as despite mine having 17" wheels, I've previously found when putting my reg in on Tyre websites that they always come back as 16" wheels. So it's 286mm discs if you had 15" wheels originally, 305mm discs if you had 16" wheels, and 320mm if.......? Well that doesn't apply to me by the sounds of it.

I then found it quite a minefield looking at pads. Eventaully found out that the same caliper is used for both 286mm and 305mm discs so same pads for both. But I'm not wanting Volvo pads. Had a look at Mintex and found two possible part numbers. Then did more trawling and eventually found I need Mintex MDB1944. This site is useful
http://www.brakebook.com/bb/tmd/en_GB/index.xhtml

I can get these pads from Camskill for less than £30, and it just so happens that I will be ordering tyres from them very soon, so that works out nicely. Will be getting disks from Buypartsby, who I used a few times over the years for various things, for £40 the pair delivered.

§§§§ing §§§§§§§§......

All you have to do is drill out the fixing holes in the hub and then bolt the XC 90 calipers with the 336mm discs.
