right its my birthday on monday so with the few quid i get here and there and a §§§§ load of overtime this week i should have about £150 to play with.

Now im wondering about getting one of these £150 hlm remaps but i need to check with my insurance first on the price.
brentacre go off BHP to get a quote price.
So on my 96 t5 with a cone filter and a bleed valve which ill have to remove if i go down this route as a rough figure how much BHP will one of these maps give me.

failing that ill get most of the parts i need to do the 960 throttle body mod and 3" RIP.

the only thing that's putting me off the remap is the fact my car is my daily work horse and im gonna have to send my ecu away as i live up north in darwen.

thanks again

You will get between 240-270bhp depending on the engine and setup

i want the remap, belive me i do but the question is,
on a near standard 96 t5 with a cone filter what sort of rough figure will it up the BHP to, as to insure my car they go off BHP and they wont insure me unless i give them a figure.

im not going to do it if there gonna bum me for it as i dont have very deep pockets at the mo haha!

telling your insurance about the remap is commendable but..................if you cant give them an accurate figure then why bother ;)

What Lee said, I was just about to say, how would the insurance know that it was remapped?, unless they read this thread ;)

no1tosh
Tuesday 9th July 2013, 19:14
the reason im honest with my insurance is when i had my first car a mk2 golf i got caught up in a police car chase and the car they where chasing a seirra cossie slammed it to the side of me at 70mph. Anyways when the enginer phoned me up he said he could write my insurance off for having clear side repeaters but due to the fact he felt sorry for me he didn't.

now i know he was probably trying to scare me but it just always stuck with me. that and im a bit of a wimp lol:ashamed:

You dont need to send your ecu off till you get the new one, just pay a 100 quid deposit and when hlm get your's back they repay you.

claymore
Tuesday 9th July 2013, 20:57
Or, I have a spare ecu that I could send to HLM, then you can send me yours when you get the remapped one.

no1tosh
Tuesday 9th July 2013, 21:56
that would be great thank you. would you need my ecu numbers to make sure that yours will be compatable with my car, and visa versa?

no1tosh
Tuesday 9th July 2013, 22:01
oh would you happen to have a working boost control selonoid? as i think that might be the cause of my boost problem which will come back when i take my bleed valve off.

claymore
Tuesday 9th July 2013, 22:17
I just used a bleed valve with my hlm ecu, never had a problem with it.

Not really, mine's been hammered up the strip at least 10 times since the bleed valve's been fitted with no I'll effects, the secret is to know when to stop turning the knob in the BOOST + direction.;)

see this is how much of a wimp i am, iv'e got a cone filter and bleed valve set to 0.75 bar and i am always driving it thinking if i floor it im gonna bend a rod.
I find it hard to bring on the boost slowly until 3500 rpm as it takes to long:smile:

is this the same with a 304 map? do i have to pussy foot until 3500 rpm?

Nope just floor it whenever you want :)

stribo
Wednesday 10th July 2013, 19:24
I generally floor it between 2500 and 3000 revs, but I still have my TCV/BCS, so I guess that takes care of it. I really want to get it remapped, so it's done properly, rather than my guess work. Still I've got a 14 second car in one piece. ;)

Wednesday 10th July 2013, 19:57
tbh i want a BCS that works, that's why i have a bleed valve.
I can't think of what else it could be other than the waste gate actuator. my boost needle only just touch's the white on WOT and my gauge says 0.2 bar but with the bleed valve its fine:confused:
anyone have a working BCS they are willing to sell??? pritty please

Totally agree with what Liam says, a new one from Volvo for our S60R cost less than £50.

No shame in that, I am honest too - and I would honestly say contact Chris KNott.(quote the VPCUK code) They did me a good deal - I just told them it was a RICA 280 (NOT 280bhp!!) and that was enough to calc a premium for me - they know their stuff. I pay about 600 pa but I am an old fart with a zillion years NCB. They also know about the lowered susp uprated brakes.

No space on the form for to mention the nut on the steering wheel or the leaden right foot.LOL

p.s. last r-r test showed only about 235bhp but great torque and a cumulo-nimbus of oil smoke ;>)

My insurance costs.....................you know what? It's irrelevant! Unless you happen to live in my house, do my job, drive my car, have the same DOB as me, and the same NCB, you can't directly compare insurance quotes

Sorry if I'm coming across as an §§§§ hole, but it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine. We're all old enough and experienced enough to know that insurance works in some very strange ways, so why do we still insist on comparing our insurance costs to some random geezer on the other side of the country on an internet forum? :cuckoo: It's the same on every car forum.

If you do happen to be curious though, I'm getting quoted £250 by Direct Line for the V70 T5. Only chose them last year as I needed Business Mileage cover for my work, and nobody could get close to DL (who include Business Mileage as standard on their policies). It's the first time in about 13 years I've been with a mainstream insurer!
