Can anyone recommend a garage in the birmingham area that may be able to help me diagnose my issue of clunking coming front wheels when driving on bumpy roads and occasionally whhen braking, Ive put up with it for some time now and have had the wishbones polybushed and strut mounts checked over by my friends garage who have also looked over the car trying to find the issue when I had a power steering pump replaced but to no avail. I know Chad's garage is somewhere in Birmingham but don't know where so if anyone can either give me the address or recommend another garage that can help me diagnose and solve the problem I will be grateful.

I'm starting to take my motors there from later this month, and I'm 120 miles away. The R's going in for a towbar and map(Chads) and a good service.

HLM or I am not allowed to say that here?

Where did that come from mate? We haven't stopped you before. (At least I don't think we have?).

There are a few Volvo Specialists in the Midlands, Stewart knows this. He was asking for recommendations as well as the details for GRN.

I had this, got really loud and worrying. I purchased some subframe bush inserts from a member called sponge on here and t5d5 , took an hour to fit and the noise has gone.

I wasn't fussed who I go to so long as they come with a recommendation. I've always used my mate who owns a garage who does the services on the performance car rental place in alum rock so if they do work on an Audi R8's and lambo's I trust him with my Volvo but he isn't a volvo specialist, hes looked all over and cant find whats causing it although he did mention to try replacing the ball joints and drop links but he says he cant actually see much wrong with them, so I thought i'd get a second opinion.

To be honest i'm just hoping its not the dampers or springs as I don't have the budget for that this month.

I hope that whatever the issue is, it's an easy and cheap fix. I'm the same with my braking issue on my R, in that my local garage can't suss out why she's pulling to one side when braking. New caliper and hose @ £120, and the car is no better. GRN are looking at this for me when it goes in for all the other work second half of this month.

Not wanting to mention names, but I've tried to remain loyal to a local indy, but he never calls me back, and I feel like I'm hassling him by taking my 3 Volvos to him. I've only bought a part for my C70 off GRN to date, but have called them several times, and if they miss my call, they do actually call me back. On the back of that service, whenever possible from now on, they will be looking after my 3 motors.

Well back on topic thanks for the recomendations, Chads Uncle took a look at the issue and I now have it booked in for next saturday to get it fixed.

For those interested the clunking was being made by loose brake pads moving around in the carriers. Due to this the carriers have been worn so its new carriers, brake pads and doing the hoses at the same time as they are getting a bit old. Not sure if the wrong pads were fitted when it last got done or if the carriers were worn and they didnt spot it but either way I'll be taking my volvo to GRN from now on.

No Coffee or Tea (guess it was the teaboys day off) but I did recieve friendly honest service ad would recomend GRN to anyone.

What car is this for? I have a brand new genuine set of std 850/V70 t5 280 carriers/retainers (whatever you want to call them!) part number 8251126. Just worth a mention as I replaced these for the same issue.

Here's the original thread with more details:

All done and dusted, pads and carriers replaced and no more clucking. Great professional and freindly service they also gave my car the once over and let me know what needs doing in the future. Got to meet Big G as well. I'm a full convert to GRN from now on.

Related to this does anyone know of any other front wishbone rear polybush options other than the superflex ones on partsforvolvo as this will be the next bit of work to be done to the car.

Thread resurrection!!!

Just bought some wheels from BIG G today. Did not know he was part of GRN (I am newish to forum), but I have to say, what a great guy!! I paid for my wheels and he found time to have a chat with me about our cars and what they could do for me. I am sure he had better things to do than talk to me for half an hour, but this is the sort of customer care that goes a long way in my book.
Chad not there which was a shame as I could have done with picking his brain too, but what a good set-up they have there at GRN.
Good work fellas, will see you again soon (even though it is a 3 hour journey!!)
