To try and distract myself from sh!7e bonnet I got for the R last week I decided to mock up the RIP kit that I have been clumsily putting together !

This was the motley collection of pipes and cheap silicone hoses I hoped would go together to form my RIP kit. (bottom pipe is one of Black Beasts creations)

Bottom pipe fitted complete with 3'' TB and dump valve (temporarily plumbed in with the washer pipe that came with it !). May loose the dump valve eventually, the 16t I rebuilt had a Forge blanking plate fitted and I don't have a decent re-circ to replace it with ! (oh yeah, haven't sorted out iAC valve hose yet)

Top pipe mocked up with silicone bends, once I'm happy with the fit I'll trim back the hoses rather than have half a foot of ally pipe shoved up each one !

The top pipe sits a little high over the engine so I will likely trim down the rear hose to pull it down a bit although it doesn't foul the bonnet . Not sure yet about the 45 degree hose connecting to the top IC connection, doesn't fit as comfortably as I'd like, may replace it with a 63mm hump hose.

Top pipe was an eBay special, came of these guys.

I haven't even had to shorten it so the beads have remained intact.

Sorry to be a pain in the bum but don't suppose you could list the hoses & diameters pls? I'm bored in work & would like to price a rip kit. my car is poorly miles away so can't go measure. Lol

When I'm totally happy with how it all sits (I've just ordered a hump hose to try on the top IC connection) I'll post up a list of parts although the bottom pipe was one of Black beasts so you will have to sort out the bottom one yourself.

Two quick q:'s for those of you who have done this already -
a) what are Mikalor clamps and why would you use those over say worm drive hose clips or oetiker clips?
b) with the top hose going into the I/C are you using the hump hose to take up the differential movement between the top pipe fixed to the engine, and the intercooler fixed to the body? Or are you still using an S shaped hose to absorb that movement?

Cheers

Mikalor are T bolt clamps which have a much wider and thicker band to them and exert a higher clamping force to the pipework. To be honest on my set up they are overkill, the silicone hoses are a very tight fit on the ally pipework and the ally pipes themselves have a good bead on them so decent hos e clips would work just fine ( in fact the Milkalor clamp I got for the throttle body is too wide for the TB flange so I have had to use a worm drive clip anyway). If your using pipework that's not beaded then I would definitely recommend using them as the joints are compromised anyway so you will need as much surface area clamping down to keep them together.
The hump hose was to replace the 45 degree hose going to the top ic connection as I wasn't happy with the pull on the hose (basically the angle is less then 45 degrees and was stressing the hose), it didn't work, the hump hose is far too rigid to form an angle so I've gone back to the 45 degree one.
