View Full Version : 'Induction kit 'knocked' together for Gul. Awesome sound.

Decided to use some parts that I have from previous kits to 'knock' one together for Gul. Used the K & N cone that was on my R when I bought her, after a good clean and gentle re-oil, and a bracket that I have from ages ago. Left the bottom of the original airbox in place and haven't removed the bonnet insulation............yet.

Just went for a spin and the sound has put a big grin on my face. Seems to make a lot more more noise than the Optiflow kit that's now on my R, and I will try to record it and post it up.

My excuse is that my hands were too dirty to use my phone to take pics.....honest. I think it's more the sound than the pic in this case, so I need to do both really.

Any mods that I do will be minor, and reversible, promise.

You may have noticed that she's on Comets now, which is temporary until October or so, when the Comets will have Winter tyres fitted and go back on the R. Gul back to her Titans then. I would like to change the headlights/indicators on her as well, and after that nothing really..........

I'll keep the originals, for if I was ever to sell her, which is doubtful.

Volvokid posted a load last Friday after our mini Scottish meet. My Comets need a refurb, but I think still look OK on Gul.

Things like that will not affect the price of them infact me personaly would think it would be better with a stainless exhaust

It's your car, do what you bloody want dude.
I understand the purists opinions but so long as you keep the original parts I don't see a problem.

Exactly my thinking on this. All the original parts will be kept and swapped back, if I ever come to part with her, which is not my intention.

I think she really suits them which surprised me TBH. They aren't in the best of condition either, but still look good IMO.

I have had the same with a few cars I've owned, I think so long as the mods are tasteful & of a good quality too.
I doubt you have plans for Lamborghini doors & neon washer jets though. Lol

My biggest plan is to spend money on her bodywork, in an attempt to bring her back to her former glory. A couple of bodyshops will be looking at her soon for their opinions. The 'faded' rear quarter is the main issue, but both wings and other bits need some attention.

I think faded yellow was a factory option?
One thing with mine it's at least it's faded all over, so you don't really notice :)

My yellow golf colour concept was the same, it was white in places!
Agreed on the lambo doors, they'd look wicked blud sat next to each other on some chrome spinnin dubs...

sounds good! I was wondering whether to do something the air filter on mine. Those panel filters look massive anyway tho. Could be worth it just for the sound (not the raspberry :))

I'm not sure about dump valves.......I like the recirc type

I have a BSR Optiflow kit on my V70 R, but the sound from the 'kit' on the Gul makes a lot more noise, or at least it seems like it.

My favourite kit is the BSR Optiflow one with blanking plate. I paid £100 directly from BSR for the full kit. This is mine on my R.
