View Full Version : 850 t5 Blacky timing out?? ready opinion tomorrow

Hi, as some of you may know the timing is out on the t5 due to my and a friend not setting it up properly, the front cam wheels got removed from the cams in the engine build, there position on the cams were not noted.

Also the back of the engine the exhaust cam is not at the same pitch as the intake cams. here are some pics

Never used a locking tool if you have a friend to hold the spanners in position .your cams are way out mate .

The engine isnt pictured at tdc, but yes they are out. doh

Thats the thing, i cant remeber, leaving for someone who knows what there doing tomorrow, im fed up wiv messing about these days lol

The front pulley bolts have bin set all the way back in there slots, thats not how they were on disasemble, also the slots in the back of the cams are at different angles.

She pops way to much off the throttle to, flat higher up the rpm

Best thing to do is set it at tdc and then go from there get a straight edge or 2 foot engineers ruler or a cheep wilko one any will do see if the back of the cams lines up if they don't lock them in line and then adjust the pullys.
Another thing to check is remove number 1 plug and get a long flat driver and make sure the piston has hit its fullest when the pullys are lined up

wish I knew this before I sold my n/a cams...........they came without pulleys and no one knew how to set them up :doh: oh well you live and learn I spose :(

Only looks like it's one tooth out,can't be to far out as the valves would know about before you would.

Agree with this one,from pic one it looks about 1 tooth out to me too.You never except any help otherwise I`d come and set up for u but if u change yr mind this tiome let me know.:smile:

Car's all timed up, she seems very smooth, and somehow quiet?? lol still runing well although ive only done around 6 miles in her tonight, So will drive her over the wkend and see.

tbh ive only driven her 6 mile, but she feels more torquy so i suppose thats a yes lol will know more at the wkend

Glad to hear that mate so expecting a good timing from her now :smile: lets hope what u blamed the map for was down to the timing.

tbh i dont know i know the rear cams when the engine was at tdc where on the p*** by quite abit and at different angles to both cams were out. how the hell it was runing i dont know.

She feels very smooth now, think i must have got used to how she ran before lol
