Livelier doesn't always mean better though. My brothers datsun is a very lively car to drive, much more so than my 540.......wouldn't want to drive it everyday though.

I'd like to just use my car at weekend, but i couldn't drive anything boring day to day. Most of the time, when driving, your surround by numpties and i think i'd get annoyed if driving a boring a car, but in my 540 i can just relax and let the V8 waft me along.

No would I after driving 540 lol I`m not a bmw fun I`d rather go for merc W211 but I like 5 series and was kind of thinking of getting an estate, such a smooth and stable drive.

Similar cars really, the bmw tends to be a bit more sporty. BMW and mercs just feel like they are made from rock (well the older ones anyway), in a good way.

Volvos are built a lot better than most cars, fords, vauxhalls, french cars, etc,and the difference between a 1998 s70r and a 1998 ford is huge, but bmws and mercs are on another level.

Totally agree mate.Someone mentioned on another forum about 530 supercharged 380bhp and I thought thats very nice and the 6cyl lump is easy to work on too.

Thats a lot from the 3litre engine, the supercharger conversion on mine takes it to around 390-410bhp at just 6.5psi. The 4.4 V8 is hugely strong engine so no engine work needs to be done other than bigger injectors and fuel pump.
