Test & tune day on Sunday. Given that I wasn't available for the Avon Park meet in March I am interested in doing this one.

Apologies in advance to Frankie - I know he's off to Donny to attend the NFD (Fords)

http://www.shakespearecountyraceway.com/eventdetails.asp?event=83

I need to see if I can get faster.

Anyone else?

Wobbly Dave

I got the inlet manifold off last night but I couldn't see any issues with the Valves on that side. The central shaft of the turbo has excessive play in it - so I am really bricking it now. Turbo's gotta come off regardless. A new CHRA is not where I want to be

103 point something (closer to 104mph)

There is a technique to get better terminal but sacrificing 1/4 mile time. (I haven't done it on the strip yet but works on a normal road).

I usually go to every 1/4 mile meet from the 1st in april till the last in october, it's my hobby i go as often as i can as it's really the only time i use the car :), oh and this is the 1st time ive ever broken the car but im quite happy with that as i wanted to try a new box it might make no difference at all but im gonna have fun trying :)

2) I am heavier than you.

3) You have more experience.

Kerbside weights C70 = 1453kg

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/volvo/c70/coupe-1997/dimensions/

V70 - phase 1 = either 1415Kg or 1434kg for the CD spec.

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/volvo/v70/estate-1996/dimensions/

so the C70 is marginally heavier. So with fuel & driver weight who knows. Good luck for Sunday.

Ok.....but a C70 must be more streamlined.

Wobbly Dave
Friday 19th July 2013, 15:29
C70 drag co-efficient = 0.29

V70 drag co-efficient = 0.3

but it varies depending on which site you search - some have them identical at 0.34. TBH there is nothing in it.

A remap won't get your c70 much quicker than it already is, i'v seen cars with many more mods than just a remap struggle to get a 14.5. I wouldn't bother with a remap on that car untill you do more to it (bigger dp, fmic, sports cat, bigger turbo etc).

Decided to see what all the fuss was about with this drag racing lark so I thought to myself 'today's the day Daisy, let's give it a go'

As some of you may or may not know it was my first ever run down 'the strip' and to be honest I wasn't expecting anything great time wise, I knew the car was in decent shape but as to my technique.....well that left a lot to be desired.

First run I staged 2nd and to be honest everything happened so fast I forgot anything I was told, 16.38 sec @ 93 mph

Into the queue for another run and it did seem like I had a better getaway, problem was when I got near the finish line I was bouncing off the limiter as I had tried to run the quarter with only two gear changes 15.77 @ 93 mph

Third run and a tiny bit of wheel spin off the line, mindful of my last run I probably changed into 4th a little too quickly this time (so Smithy and Neal pointed out) still best of the day 15.66 @ (you guessed it) 93 mph

I'm sure I'll give it another go, I'll be speaking to as many people as possible to try and pick up some tips in the meantime, tbh I didn't really give myself the best chance today, tyres were at 33psi (don't laugh, it was a 190 mile round trip for us and I wasn't sure there would be anywhere to pump them up again lol) and I had the air-con running along with a boot full of drinks and sandwiches
so there is room to improve and I should think I'd be able to crack 15 sec with a bit more practice.

I have at least tried, so although my times aren't anything special try not to knock me too much, round Silverstone at TRAX last year, two glass trophies from the Southern and National BKV's and my first drag racing this year hopefully show that although I'm slow.....I'm getting faster :B_thumb:

Big thank you to Dave (Wobbly) for the chat on Friday, and to Smithy, Neal and Steve for tips today (though once I was on the line I'd forget most of them) much appreciated guy's

Grats Graham :D Pity mine is a convertible otherwise I might be tempted to have a go myself :D
