I have a v70r, its a 1998, auto, fwd, has 130,000 on it now and in saffron. I like it alot, but, I wouldnt mind a manual. Should i keep the auto saffy or sell it to get a manual t-5 or another R, just a manual one?
There's nothing wrong with mine, hence why I am not sure on what to do, maybe other peoples opinions might help me! My auto box is very smooth and it goes well.

Why not convert it to a manual if your happy with it

To do this, would the manual box need to be off another R?

What do you prefer? You mention the auto box is smooth and the mileage is relatively low. So if you want a cruiser I'd say better the devil you know.

I like both manual and auto, just haven't got the parking space available to have one of each!

You would benefit from the viscous coupling on the R's M58 box, but a normal M56 will ok & run ok

I know someone who's selling a conversion kit for not a lot of cash....inc M56 box, DMF, clutch, brake & clutch pedals, gear lever & cables, manual engine loom, master and slave cylinder, all pipework & complete with bolts. Removed from a 97 V70 T5. Not sure whether it's suitable, but it's an option.

Bad experiences with my last 2 autos worry me a little, both died with 2 very different reasons, Don't like the idea of it happening again, but on the other, as you say, it is low mileage, perhaps i have nothing to worry about.

I was going to say its fuuny how we say low miles at 130k....

Can only really say that about a volvo

I would stay with the R even if you were to sell and buy a M
As i feel the (and im sure you all agree) the m58 is a good advantage.
Loosing traction in 4th gear when its ... well just moist, can get very tedious.
So if your going do a conversion.....
But then theres always the LSD.... (outstanding piece of kit to have round the bends)
Then i guess the volvo becomes game of how bigs your balls and how deeps your pockets
