Rear Anti Roll bar SNAPPED !

Today I removed the rear anti roll bar as it had snapped!
Is this a common or known problem?
It had snapped on the torsion/forked end, I welded it together and refitted.
Hopefully it will make a slight handling improvement.

Any comments welcome..

Ive seen a snapped one on a 855 td on a 1996 N plate at my work, (garage where I M.O.T).
