Both filters(C70 T5 panel, and V70 R cone) are soon due a clean, and I have a cleaning/re-oiling kit. Most people seem to suggest that I shouldn't re-oil after the clean, but can I have a few members opinions on this please.

No, you need to oil it, just dont over oil it as that's what knackers up the MAF. If you don't re oil then there will be nothing to trap the dirt and dust in the filter. I presume you know to put the cleaner on and then rinse it out from the clean side out, otherwise you're just driving the dirst further into the filter.

Cheers for that. I'll tackle this in the next few days, and take it easy on the oil. I suppose it's better to under oil than the other way.

No, in my defence BT's normally gets swopped before it needs cleaning anyway lol

This is the first time that I've cleaned filters, as I usually swap cars before they're due a clean, but I'm keeping these cars for the foreseeable.

Mine needs a clean and re oil to but as it's a BSR and all I have is K&N stuff it'll have to wait, can't see the point in having a red BSR filter..lol.

Don't be tempted to blow them dry with compressed air as you can blow holes in them, let them dry naturally after cleaning.

dishwasher ????????????????

when re applying oil, you just give it a quick once forward, once back spray and that's it. if you can see the oil on the filter, its way too much.

in my own opinion, the oil needs to be there as it catches the very smallest particles. the larger are caught by the multi layer gauze.

only pipercross have an oil free filter that i know of - these are the multi coloured ones which they are introducing accross the range. the old ones are plain black.

But you live in the clean air of the South, and I haven't got a dishwasher either(well I have, but it looks like me).

Mine has lost all it's 'blueness' compared to yours, but it was definitely blue when I bought it. Re-oil needed me thinks.

Sorry, my picture was when it was brand new(10/11/12). I'll try and photo it as it is now later in the week, and we can compare.

So I've cleaned the JR panel filter and it's just about dry. I'm going to lightly re-oil it and see how I go on. Next is the cone on the R maybe over the weekend, and I will post before and after pics of that filter.

Was the oil the blue?.. Just wondering... I know the K&N stuff is Red, I want to re oil mine but I dont want to make it look odd by using the wrong colour oil.

Let you know later, as I haven't actually applied it yet.

The filter has a slightly deeper blueness to it after the re-oil than before, and I've taken before and after pics which I'll post up soon. Filter back on the car, so fingers crossed that it's OK.

I'm on with the cone filter now, and have before and after pics. Just looking at the oil, and it is blue.

Hard to see any difference on the pics, cos the big orange thing in the sky appeared for the after pic. To the naked eye, the oil did give it a blueness.

The muck that came out of it was amazing. The filter has done approx. 8,000 miles since new, so I don't think was overdue a clean?
