When I bought this V70 the windows wheren't working, I was told by the guy I bought it off that he'd tried another drivers door switch and it had done nothing. Well now I also have tried a replacement drivers door switch and it's exactly the same. The symptoms are a fast clicking noise when you press either of the front windows, the back ones dont make any noise at all. If you use the switches on the doors themselves you can hear the motors trying to work on the two N/s passenger doors, however the ones on the drivers door dont make a peep. I've had both the front door cards off and plugged a replacement motor into the loom, sadly nothing. Running out of options now, today I pulled off some of the earth leads and cleaned them just in case it was a bad earth, still no difference. I've still got to pull the rear door cards but it's either those, the wiring or the two relays.

Anyone got any suggestions?... running out of ideas and I'm sick of having no windows. I've tried pm'ing the guy who owned it when the fault cropped up, I know he's been on here but he's not answering my messages for some reason. As soon as I finish Uni for good next Friday I'm going to pull it apart properly to try and find the fault.

Do you have a multi meter? Have you checked the motor is getting power?
Relays would have been the 1st thing to check, mainly because its so simple to do.

Yes I've got a meter, there's power there, but there cant be enough ampage otherwise the motor would be turning, fairly sure there'll be a break or a bad connection somwhere. I'd love the guiy who owned it when they packed in working to pm me, I know he's on here,I've messaged him... It's such a weird fault, I'm gonna pull the back two doors apart today or tomorrow (depending on the weather) see if there's anything wrong with them.

Can you tell us how much power they are getting. I 'think' if they was getting power but not enough, they would try and work, but if yours arent doing anything, it might be the motor itself.

I see that you have tried a new motor. Have you tried swapping bits round from all 4 doors to see if you can get any of them working?

As above start with a multimeter and trace things back to the motor/relay. The system is just a switch/relay and motor.

Or at worst find an auto electrician. I did this when I had some gremlins in my old escort and be was able to find a lot very quickly. I think it cost me £100 in total for about 4 jobs.

I've had the Passenger front working...barely, had to press the switch and push on the glass to get it to move, now even that's stopped. When I checked the poer to the drivers door motor there was a good 13volts. It's weird, I noticed that the two n/s passenger door where trying to work but the two O/s doors weren't doing anything. I dont know how the power is distributed, does it go to the drivers door first and then to the others or to each door seperatley?

Just had a thought, I've still got a copy of that lovely software we cant mention, can I look up wiring diagrams etc on it?

Have you checked all the cable mechanisim for free movement? If you are getting the motor to rotate then it might be something physical stopping it??

My Golf had eaten the cables inside the plastic? I'm sure you'll have a eureka moment soon.

I've tried disconnecting the wiring from the motor and connecting a replacement motor, my thinking is that if it spins the replacement up thats not trying to push the window then its the motor, or the glass getting stuck, sadly I got nothing on the drivers door when I did this and it only spun very slowly on the passenger side. It's almost like there's a bad earth on the windows or something similar. When you press the window switches on the drivers door the two front window switches just make a very fast clicking noise.
