Steering help and advice please chaps.

Hi chaps,
Since the Gearbox was replaced the steering on the car has been very very tight to the point that when driving it will not self center and stays where it was put until turned back.
On completion of the gearbox work and a test drive the Specialist who carried out the work told me that the spring insulator was pushing against the bottom of the top mount causing the issue.
Now, i have replaced both insulator and top mount on the struts and the issue is still there.
Has anyone got any ideas what else could be it fault.

Could they have crushed one of the power steering pipes?

that is a good point, ill have i look.

As above, bet they bent something when they dropped the sub frame, you either have to disconnect from the foot well or un-bolt it along the frame ask which they done

21119that is a good point, ill have i look. cant see any crushed pipes but did find this. And i know it wasn't wet around there before the box was done.

Oh no! I hope this doesn't happen when I have my gearbox changed because I've had enough problems as it is. I wonder though is it's something to do with the driveshaft not being installed correctly because that can affect the steering surely?

Or perhaps they did something when they disconnected the steering column?

By contrast, my steering at the moment feels all loose and hops around all over the place everytime I hit a lump in the road. The rest of the time, it's like driving over rumble strips..... Fancy a steering swap? ;)

i think so. it appers to be wet around the point were the knuckle enters the rack. tomorrow im going to drop the rods ends off and move the seperate bits. then go from there.

Well now then, on further investagaton it would apper that the high pressure hose that termiates furthest away from the steering knuckle recived a clump when the gearbox work was carried out (prize to Colin for best guess!) its not flat but not round any more. looks like another chat with the chap who carried out the work. Meh!
