View Full Version : Dump valve

Hi guys, I've just received my dump valve that I bought an was wondering what pipe I connect to the top of the dump valve? I'm going to be putting the dumpvalve in the pipe from intercooler to TB

ALSO, I'll be fitting my boost gauge later, what hose do I split to put my t-piece in?

Thanks

its not as straight forward as that, you first need to replace the original recirculation valve with a blanking plate, the pipe that goes to the re-circ valve now goes to the top of the dump valve

....And you split that pipe for the gauge :)

no you dont you just use the vac tree

The option's there to do either.

Besides, we don't know if it's Me7 or not - No vac tree on the ME7.

ME7 will have a caniption fit if you try to dump to air. Perhaps a little harsh but the stall rate will go up considerably & your idle will be irratic to say the least.

It's pre me7 so will have a vac tree. Not sure about the blanking plate as its a lpt

A what?

How would dumping to air affect idle Dave? the spring would be holding the valve closed?

MAF sensor & ECU are a lot more accurate & the relationship is much tighter. It doesn't like loosing a whole bunch of metered air into the engine bay.

I have a GTX3071 turbo strapped to the back of mine, and as you might know - it has no recirc valve. So I run a TIAL QR BOV, but before I got the final pipe work sorted - I know exactly what happens when you run ME7 with a dump valve to air. On a closed throttle RPM will dip to 500 & sometimes it might pick up again, but a lot of the time you will be using the ignition key - which is quite embarrassing.

it'll still be a turbo from the Mitsubishi TD04 range so will have a recirc valve built onto it

Problem solved - you already have a dump valve - so you don't need to waste money installing another one (that will almost invariably leak & cause rough running issues).

IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

so if running a standard recirc, & a cone filter the hiss/pssh whatever you hear when you back off the throttle isn't stalled air exiting the air filter the wrong way? Otherwise it'd have the idle issues as well, inless the MAF is measuring the air traveling in both directions lol

Thanks fir clearing that up. So Dan before you fit your dv get a forge blanking plate and fit that first. I loved the sound of that alone and never fitted the DV to my t5r

You'll struggle with your airbox mate. Best thing to do with it is take the lid off.

That's what i'd do anyway mate, might whip the sound proofing off while I'm there

My TD04 19T I had on my Saab 9-5 Didn't have a recirc valve on it..... I had a serperate recirc valve plugged into the IC pipe leading to TB

I put a pipercross enclosed filter on the vovlo the other day and that doesa little chatter (tsshh noise) I'll get ordering a blanking plate now for it, only putting a dump valve on because it was a cheap ebay win.

Yeah my car is a Pre me7

right, fitted boost gauge, i split the pipe thats on the recirc valve, says im getting 6-8 psi which is about right for these engine?
i've recieved my blanking plate today, the pipe thats on the recirc vavle, where does that go to if im blaking off the recirc and not fitting my DV?

Rudeyboy18

You run the pipe from the top of bov to the inlet manifold or vacuum tree

The pipe that would connect to the recirc valve can connect to the dump valve or if the dump valve is connected to the vac tree, ditch the pipe and the tree and run the gauge directly to the manifold.

why have you split the pipe? i told you not to do that, you should be getting 9.6 psi, with that pipe just bend it over and cable tie it or put a screw in the end if you have no dump valve

I thought i didnt have a Vac tree since mine is a preME7? I can soon Block the pipe off that i've split and put the gauge onto another pipe

Rudeyboy18
Friday 12th April 2013, 11:07
The vac tree is underneath the Black plastic cover covering the accelerator cable etc. Your vac tree will have 5 inlets, probably with all 5 capped off like mine was.

fitted the blanking plate, only took 20mins or so, so where should i run the gauge from then?

When you need to run anything like dv or stuff like that... use the tree. Nice and simple. And if you suddenly lose boost somewhere.... check here first as sometimes the caps pop off

Dan H
Friday 12th April 2013, 16:03
yeah I put my DV on and it started loosing boost and ideling wasnt right ( I put the pipe form the reciec valve ontop of the DV as it says, but the boost kept coming and going, so I've took it off for now, Shame because i quite like the noise.

Oh and Frankie, the gauge is reading 6psi

it has to be a good dump valve not a cheap crap thing, what have you got? also it needs to be a twin piston type

The blanking plate is deffo tight, dont wanna go any more incase i snap one of the bolts. I'll have a check over it all and see what happens when i re-connect the DV

It does the Job Frankie, if I can get this one on and running right then I may buy a better one in the future, but for now it'll do for the time being!

if youre only running 6 psi sounds as though you have a leak from somewhere, these cars are always leaking, it will either be a boost leak (but you should be able to hear that) or a vacuum leak

Dan H
Friday 12th April 2013, 17:34
guessing it will be a vaccum leak then, i'll buy some more vac hose and replace what i can see over the next week or so. Hopefully i'll be able to fix it, 90% of the wires look perrished mind, so probably just one of those that has a small crack in it

T5frankie
Friday 12th April 2013, 17:42
your turbo control valve could also be knackered as 6 psi is what they will read as a minimum
