Recently had an oil cooler line burst off, oil everywhere proper mess, anyway changed intercooler for a spare in case it was cause of problem, replaced oil, and now looks like turbo seals have gone. So cut to the chase a friend did turbo refurb with genuine kit not so long back, changed to 16t compressor wheel aswell, turbo seemed fine before losing the oil cooler line. has anyone used these as a replacement http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mitsubishi-Volvo-Saab-Turbo-Cartridge-TD04H-16T-CHRA-/360612502022?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53f62e1a06,

What makes you think the seals have gone, if you don't have excessive shaft movement and there is no evidence of the blades touching the housings anywhere you could just rebuild the core with a 60 quid kit.

well she smoked like a beast the other day, think the pcv might need unblocking or return seal from turbo. but i seem to have burnt fair bit of oil, and its §§§§ing out of the dv

Cheers Phil, first two questions remain though, from experience non genuine items nearly always fail prematurely. unless uprated. did think about one of these cos no need for housing http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbo-Turbocharger-CHRA-Core-Cartridge-Volvo-V70-2-3-T5-1998-240-Hp-/360536667900?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53f1a8f6fc, but in the same boat then with non genuine bearings and seals, could be a short lived fix

I put a 'cheap' rebuild kit in my 15g a few years ago, 80,000 miles later and it's still going strong. There aren't any actual 'seals' in a turbo, just piston rings that fit in grooves on the shaft.

To be honest, never had the 15g balanced after I rebuilt it (didn't even mark it !) . Not that I'm recommending the 'just wing it !' approach !

Haha lol no me neither, trusted a friends judgement, the old mechanics pinch, did the job lol
but seeing as we winged it last time feel i should either get the proper tools ie something that torques down to 6nm Mitsubishi refurb kit, and send it off to be balanced this time. or just send it off to have the works with midland turbo or similar.
