Got the R back from it's 3 week garage vacation :)

Had a boat load of things to do, but happy now the full respray is finished. Roof has been sprayed, also had a new windscreen and top seal too along with new cant rail trims. Tailgate also had to be resprayed after some reaction from the previous spray work was starting to lift. I decided this time to delete the tailgate window bottom seal for a cleaner look......

Well chuffed with it now though, black cars are a git to get perfect and over the last couple of years has given me a few extra greys ;)

Some quick photos outside Volvo in Birmingham....will have to get some proper ones taken soon (hopefully when I have the 18in tritons refurbed!!)

Quite partial to a black r. Looking well that fella but I reckon you'll certainly turn grey keeping it like that. After 2 black cars I vowed never to have another.

Not been doing so bad in the last 5 years of ownership, but I know what you mean!

I've been a bit lazy with a build thread on this car....I guess I should put my 'vital statistics' up on the board too :)

Our cars would look BADASS next to each other ..... Mine got the blow over 3 months ago with new windscreen. It makes it look like a new car.... not a 15 year old car.

Yours Looks great mate!!

Very nice, really like the front end - not sure if the stainless grill would ruin it tbh?

I'm hearing you there Martin (I do have my concerns too).....I keep on trying to think of some way of making the oem grille work on this car as I think the chrome (no offense) looks a bit grandad for a mean machine......so thought I'd try something else. I don't like painting grills for obvious reasons, but also don't like 'halfords style' hence why I add the big oem lorry badge to make up for the mesh grille. I've got the usual C70 egg crate grill but find the plastic a bit too grey...and still has the chrome surround which I'm trying to stay clear of.

I'm always up for making custom grills, but trying to make them look oem some how. It took a fair amount of work to get that grille to have the stainless look, but cost nothing so I can only but try. If it does work well I might even buy a new one and bead blast it to give a totally uniform satin finish.....possibly with another lorry badge which I can dremel tool cut into the grille spokes for a oem look. I might put up a thread on custom grilles....got loads of ideas! I could even look into making a complete grill using SLA to produce ABS parts, would just have to model it on Solidworks...but could do honeycomb or anything ;)

I've just got a dremmel and some bits, and I've been toying with doing something new with my grille.

Carbon wrap and some patchwork... hmmm.

I got my first Dremel about 16yrs ago.....couldn't do without it! Sounds like we'll have to get a custom grille thread going then.....let's see who can design & make a new version to put fwd to the mfgs....so they can stop making those horrid badgeless egg crate cr*p things!

Can almost see the 'Homer spice rack' attempts from people with, let's say, little artistic license....being PC!! :)

Haha, might be worth me going and buying some grilles then ;)

Do it....I've got 3 scrap yards saving any 850 or s/v/c70 etc grills which don't get bought before cars are crushed :)

I'd really like to know a contact for plating ABS though.....then you could get the darn things coated in a multitude of finishes!!

Yeah, and tougher than plasti-dip.
