Found this interesting link, it shows that in 2007, 30.8% of 2001 model year V70's failed the MOT. Underneath then, there is a break down of all the causes and one of the biggest is suspension. Suprise, suprise!

Thats because you all sleep in them at meets! 1999 C70 is tyres lights and brakes so sounds ok....just as well ETM and MAF are not in the MOT.

Tony.

Chances are if your MAF or ETM are faulty then it will flag up the Emissions Warning Lamp which is an automatic fail, and even so the Emissions would be affected meaning that part of the test would no doubt produce a VT30 on its own... :D

Mines in for MOT in a couple of weeks.
What`s the betting mines in the 30%.

I suspect my wishbone bushes (at least) will cause a fail.
Just having the rear ARB`s done now.

I must be getting close to what Martin and James have spent now!

I've got 2 wishbones sitting here which I'm half way through Polybushing. If you need them let me know and we can talk money, it will be cheaper than buying new wishbones. The only troble is there is a ball joint still bolted to one of them with a mashed head on the nut so it will have to be cut off.

The wishbones are in good condition though.

Thanks James much appreciated.
I`ll let you know how I get on.

I`m just basing this on a quick inspection but mine do look pretty far gone tbh!

Ok, well if you think you'll need them or they'll be useful, let me know and we'll go from there. Failing that I plan on selling them on anyway so it's up to you....

Just about £3200 spent so far, not including the car!
I don`t think anyone can keep up with James at the moment!
(Sorry James)
I should know in a couple of weeks for definite.

Thanks.

Most of my repair bills are necessity based rather than buying parts or things that aren't needed yet.

Mine too sadly, I`ve not had chance to do anything I`ve actually wanted to do yet.
Just trying to get the old girl back to something like right before I start trying to improve it!

Just added lower gearbox torque mount to the list of jobs I need to do (sigh).
It`ll get there in the end!

I have had Volvo's S60 for 6 years never had a fail at MOT time I think I must be lucky,or just gold plate them to much.

VOLVO S60 2003
Make Model Year Pass Fail Fail Rate
VOLVO S60 2003 6063 1937 24.2%
Reasons for Failure
Bodywork (10)
Brakes (632 )
Windscreen, Drivers View (204)
Emissions (247)
Lights (1805)
Registration Plate (60)
Wheels (46)
Seat Belts (17)
Steering (154)
Suspension (336)
Tyres (884)

good for mine then - i've pretty much changed every bulb already, windscreens fine, tyres are good (atm), brakes are good, bodyworks mint, new reg plates, wheels are fine, seat belts are fine, steerings fine - only issue area at present is suspension but that will be addressed soon and i will get an emissions check done soon as hoping now cars in use it should be cleaner as literally skated through last MOT but had been sat for months

My eagle eyes spotted I had a top tail light bulb out yesterday when I was giving the car a check for obvious stuff. My MOT is at midday!

Good luck James hope all goes well!

It's annoying that having just one of the tail light bulbs blow
won't trigger the bulb failure warning.
I've checked all the obvious stuff now and there's nothing obvious
but you just never know.
Just ordered a new power steering reservoir cap too as that's been
Leaking for a little while.
Getting these things back to near perfect is becoming a pricey obsession lol

Mine is leaking too, I've cleaned it up and checked the levels before I take it down to the test. PAS fluid levels are now tested on the MOT (whatever next!), and if it's below minimum it's an advisory at best, possibly even a failure. I'll post my test result online later.....

You're right though, perfecting an older Volvo is pricey obsession!

Well over 3 grand spent on mine so far. About 400 on mods or improvements.

Although I've saved 1000 to 1500 by doing a lot of the work myself and maybe a grand by shopping around and sourcing bargain oe or name brand parts.

New hd droplinks arrived today, hopefully the injector rebuild kit too :) busy afternoon ahead ;)

Hope it stays dry for you,it's just a bit to cold to play with cars this time of year.

Oh we'll, maybe I'll eventually get to sort the interior, wheels, aircon and
all the other bits I actually WANT to get sorted.
I suspect this year will be the "year of replacing many bushes" though.
Martin, yours should never fail an MOT as there's only about 20% of the original car left lol
