Finally got a set of blues for £22 :shhh: I immediately got them home and fired-up the ultrasonic bath and after 15 minutes...

I've got blue ones on my T5, I didn't realise until I looked at the photo I took the other day......

Mind you, I wouldn't know the benefits of other colours to be honest. Anyone car to enlighten me? :D

Well James... Mine SHOULD have blues but plod changed them. The colour depicts flow rate.

Orange (mine) is the lowest, then white, then blue, then green, the NA models have different injectors.

Nice price,so what's the flow rate difference of these ones.

Nice how did you get on with the bath

Went in 3 bouts - 10 minutes with some hard core degreaser which pretty much cleaned the outer casing.

10 minutes with mild soapy water, on a higher frequency to loosen the crud off the inside.

Used a home made rig to pulse the injector to clean the chamber and a 5 minute buzz just to finish it off. I'll run some mineral solvents through them tomorrow to flush them out properly.

So sounds like you average MPG is going to drop a bit.

Shouldn't - once the ecu learns the new flow rate it'll adjust the duty cycle accordingly. The problem I had with the oranges was they were maxed-out causing the engine to run lean. That and the oranges had lottery miles on them lol.

M-R-P
Friday 22nd March 2013, 22:52
Pinched from elsewhere...

Most of the 850 Turbos used orange injectors which flow at 310cc.

The 98 R and T5 had the whites which are 350cc and in 99 the blues were used on the R and possibly the T5 as well. They flow at 395cc. The greens are a 00 R thing and flow at 465cc I think.

Just a bit of extra info.....

Blues flow the same as whites at 3 bar fuel pressure (347cc). What Volvo did was increase the fuel pressure to 3.8 bar to up the flow to 391cc. The only other difference is blues are 12ohms impedance and whites are 16ohms.

Interesting, thanks mate. I take it my car runs 3.8bar?

This would go some way to explaining the shortfall in torque in the last RR session, and probably the massive detonation I got on the first RR session :(

It would go some way to explaining it i'm sure. Also the oranges will be a higher impedance so that might have had an effect too (if only slight)

Not sure on your fuel pressure mate, but guessing it is 3.8bar. So they will have been flowing a bit more than 315cc but certainly not what the ecu 'thought' the flow was.

Might be worth resetting the ecu, on my M4.4 ecu I'd just unplug it (for a while) to reset the adaptions, but not sure if it can be done on the ME7, someone will know.

Well done on finding a bargain matey :D

I pull the negative on the battery every few months or so and yeah, it resets the bit of the ecu that remembers your driving style. Makes it less aggressive but more efficient in my case lol.

I'll be pulling the battery when I fit the blues :)

It may adjust in closed loop (idle, part throttle) using the lambda sensors but the ECU cannot adapt when in open loop i.e WOT. In open loop (using MAF values) the fuelling runs off preset maps which can only be altered by remapping. You will get away with it as they aren't hugely bigger injectors but the fuelling will be richer at WOT unless you adjust fuel pressure accordingly.

Rebuild kit arrived earlier. Took 5 minutes to fit the filters, seals and pintles. 20 minutes later and my newly refurbed blues were fitted (note to self - relieve pressure from fuel rail before pulling the rail off the fuel pipe lol)
What can I say? She starts faster, runs smoother and pulls harder at the top-end :D
Happy M-R-P

I also saw a steady 42 mpg @ 35 mph in 3rd  gonna do a run tomorrow that I know always makes between 32 and 35 mpg to get a better idea of what improvement there is.

Much smoother mate, with notably more torque after 4k rpm.

Not only were the oranges underfueling, but their filters are pretty gunged - up, as were the nozzles. I'll be rebuilding them soon.

I suppose it depends where you're driving I suppose. The drive to my mum's has 30, 40 and some 60 mph speed limits, a few sets of lights, a few 2nd gear corners and some steep hills. I briefly saw 41 mpg but a set of lights ruined that lol.
