Has anyone heard of or tried a Garrett T28 hybrid turbo as recomended by turbo technics , apparently it will take power upto 350bhp on a T5

I ran T28 hybrids on my Rover and Nissan and they are a good blower !

But to fit it to your T5 you would have to have your manifold machined for it to fit.

And it wont be a 350hp bolt on you would need a decent custom re-map to make that work.

True it can flow enough for 350hp but so can a 15G if you know what your doing

Thought about a replacement in the G range lance. I know they do up to a 20g which i will assume has the same characteristics as my turbo but with the ability to take more boost !?!?

I am cocidering a 15g looking at what Mrs Mopps and Bracers can do !
Do like my 16 t but would be intrested to see what torque and when it comes in and tails off as a comparison to the 16t,
I liked the low down grunt of a 15g but I like the flat out high reving of the 16t!
I dont know what to do for best!!
Il probably stick with a new 16t when the time comes!

Just been on the motorway with boostgauge on consitantly holding 0.95- 1bar and was spiking around 1.1-1.2 briefly when road cleared and foot went right down then back to around 1 bar, So how much for a new 16t and how much for a 19t?

You have to remember Lance that with the 19T you'll need a new remap too!

16T cheapest option then by a good 800+ I bet

Lance, you might not actually need a new turbo. First find out what the problem is, and if it's the turbo, thats the time to think about turbo choice.

Also, 19T remap for existing RICA customers is only £100 + VAT.

not up on turbos here whats the difference in them apart from spin up times?

There size is only the visual difference between the turbo’s, its the characteristics of how quick they spool, how much air they can flow, and at what engine speed can they sustain that pressure.

Below I've put some of the spec together for the 4 main turbos, including there rated flow rates and a compressor map.

Turbo Type = TD04HL-15G

Rated Flow = 428 CFM

Rated Flow = 435 CFM

So what was the prob ?

Actuator was at 2psi, so that was fixed at 4 psi. Boost control solenoid was also faulty. Turbo is probably past it's best, but not worth changing yet.

Turbos still worn but not knackered , slight adjustment to waste gate and a new boost control solinoid and some carb cleaner and she holds 1 to 1.1 bar instead of 0,9 bar with the occasional spike and unsteady uneven boost.
Adam and Hamish reckon shes producing around 280-290 bhp.
Still the turbos past its best but not knackered yet so should get atleast another 6 months 10k+ before i have a real need to replace it!
She definetly feels a lot more urgent now!

Thanks again Adam & Hamish for a job well done, and thanks Hamish for the spin in the new family member, shes a beauty! :dgrin:

Will have to wait a couple of years or longer for a nice ME7 T5 as I promised the Mrs .
I may as well take her to 200k+ so I can see me popping back in 6 months or more for a new turbo! ( maybe a 19t if funds allow at the time who can say with a baby on the way)
I love my T5 even more after todays tweeks and cant wait to Drive her at any time.
Just a shame about the wind and nobhead fastlane hogs preventing speed today on the way back to Notts.
Definetly felt more lively lower down too!

I look forward to going 120-125 in 3rd gear one day in my own ME7 T5, s60 -v70 . Very Impresive!
The T5 range really has moved on in a bigger way than figures on paper and newer body shell would make you belive, it may not be as raw in as an 850 or early s,c,v 70 but I still want one one day even better I would love to be in the position to own 1 from all the different body styles ffom 850r c70 v70 s60 etc
