It says in the volvo service books if you don't have LED or OBD you can use the volvo scan tool (998-8686) connected to volvo data link connector (DLC) in engine bay

you know the obd2 dont work on 850's, my brothers m reg has the led lights, mine doesnt

you can get flash codes out of the obd2 socket using a 12volt led and 3 wires, seem to remember a thread on voc but don't have a link at present, have done this on mine once or twice but can't remember which pins to flash, will do a bit of research tomorrow mate

if its anything like mine it will be a nightmare to read......................stealers couldn't read it...........local independants couldn't read it...........my son works at a vauxhall/everything else dealers and they couldn't read it...................ended up with a £10 cheapy from e-bay..........works perfectly
