Hi, can any body tell me what gear box my 2001 C70 T5 5 speed Manual is running.
i need to pick up a good second hand unit, 160,000 2,3 & 4th gears are very noisey now, keep getting quoted part numbers, but how can i find what i have in the first place? Thanks

Any m56 will work doesn't even have to be a t5 box, my s70r has a 2.0 20 valve gearbox for quicker acceleration

I have an M56 box from a C70 of a similar year (99). Where abouts are you?

I'm surprised your getting part numbers as Volvo say the box is unserviceable & just gets replaced. U'll have an internal slave cylinder so want the same later box to match

gearbox was working last time it was used without any issues. 125 quid & its yours - not including delivery. I'd advise collection. I'm in Telford.

Gearbox is from C70 1999 T5 Coupe with about 120K miles on it. As far as I know this G/B is original to that car.

as per p fandangos reply he mentions i will have to get the later box as mine will have the internal slave cylinder, will your M56 from a 1999 fit my 2001? Cheers

I'm likely looking for a new gearbox too. Anyone know whether the newer 6 speed manual would work in a 2001 T5 (V70)?

daves will fit and it doesnt matter if you have internal or external slave although the latter is better for obvious reasons

The 6th gear is good for cruising on the motorway and also you get more gears in between so you can chosse a gear with those 'in between' moments. The last 2 cars I've used both had 6 speed boxes on them.

t5's have more than enough torque not to worry about 6 gears, i can go all the way to work in 5th gear if i like in my car round roundabouts at 30mph then accelerate to 70 ish it doesnt phase them at all

The obvious being the weeping cylinders that need the whole gearbox taking off to fix, unlike on the external slave cylinder lol

I can't do that, I have to take it down a gear or even 2 sometimes (5th to 3rd), to get the car to shift as it's flat as a fart off boost.
