for the last 3 years ive been planning a scratch built hotrod with a volvo t5 engine now that my 850 t5 got smashed i took the engine out and im now going to strip it all down and clean it and give it a coat of silver vht paint ive been looking at a BMW 328 gearbox and IRS once i get it together im going to make a adapter plate to mate it together

ive tried to show picture of the engine but they wont upload ive put a picture of my up coming project this year

I didn't think that most longitudinally mounted t5 engines used BMW - I thought they used the 5 box from a late 900 series - on which the original t5 engine was tested.

they dont they use the white block m90 out of the 960 there quite rare, you got more chance of finding a unicorn before you find one of them i would love to have a m90 it wouldnt need a adapter plate they bolt straight on and i could use 1 900 series rear diff

Yeah i was told they use the 900 white blocks parts for a t5 RWD conversion, as they all bolt on even the rear end with diff to the 850/70 floor pan (this bit im skeptical of but hey)
But the 6 cylinder engine is the same as the 5 compared to the very different red block 4 pot, also i hear the RWD volvo system is super strong so i guess there wouldnt be any advantages of running bmw equipment...

there is no advantages to the bmw im using it coz of the IRS and it dirt cheap gearbox diff hub shaft and prop shaft 135.00 the 5 pot and the 6 pot are designed and built on the same platform the only difference is the extra cylinder in 6 pot

original i planned to use a complete v70 R AWD running gear but the engine and box wouldnt fit between the chassis rail as it transverse mounted that would have made a very cool and quick hot rod

If you are doing a rear/mid engined arrangement you might be better sourcing a VW/Audi transaxle. There's hundreds of them around and they will be pretty cheap. Any non-Volvo box will need an adapter plate making, you may be lucky the VAG transaxles are used a lot in mid engined kit cars so there may be an adapter plate available.
