Here she is sat on the street before I bought her.

It now sits on my drive. Slowly checking her over to see whats what.

Discovered yesterday that there was missing vacuum pipe. (The one that went from the middle of the BCS to the air intake pipe)

Random but true. I replaced that pipe and it made the car a little bit slower. The boost wasnt coming in as strong.

Today, I have studied numerous vacuum pipe diagrams (Its not straight forward) and came to the conclusion that the other pipes were not in their right places.

To cut a long story short, there was a pipe going from the turbo to the vac tree (there is one that does that, but it wasn't the right one). So I swapped that round with the one that should have been going there. I put a boost gauge on quickly at the same time so I could keop an eye on what was going on.

Took it for a run. Boosting to around 8psi. I knew that wasn't right. Felt pretty fast though.........

I wondered if that other two pipes from the BCS were the wrong way round so I swapped them. Out for a run. Boost now at least 10 psi heading towards 11. Standard should be 10.5 psi. It was holding nicely as well. Car felt much strong and went well!!

The car had the turbo reconditioned around two years ago. I'm guessing who ever did it forgot the way the vac pipes went when it was re installed. They were all over the shop. I'm suprised it ran so well considering the several mix ups.

Have replaced all the vac pipes connecting the turbo and BCS so dont need to worry about them.

Spark plugs have been out and checked. All look well. A rough clean of the engine bay has been done but far more to go yet.

The only electical thing I have found not working is the drivers side heated seat. I shall be working on that soon.

Car needs an oil change. I have the stuff ready to go and hope to do that in the next few days.

Tailgate struts are knackered big time and need replaced. Again on the list.

Need to clean all the boost pipes and throttle body. (carb cleaner bought and on standby)

Redex ready to go in the tank.

Thats it so far. Will get some pictures sorted in the next few days.

Finally took some pictures.

Have done some bits and bobs.

Bit of rust above the tailgate handle so took that off and touched the paint up a bit. More of a prevention rather than a work of art at the moment.

Drivers wing mirror motor slightly goosed as in only went up and down. Found a breakage inside that I did glue but it didn't hold. Second hand ordered off flee bay.

Tailgate inside trim kit ordered as the lining was hanging on (just) as usual.

Fairly sure the turbo return is leaking so order some washer. Have done it on two previous T5s I've owned so should be easy and quick to do.

Offside rear door trim remove as its bust. Need to source new one.

Touched up some nasty chips on the paint work here and there.

Cleaned the alcantara thoroughly. Previous owner had let their dog onto every seat. Also shaved the drivers seat of bobbles. The rest yet to do. Impressed with how they have turned out considering the initial condition of them.

More to do.

Oh, Have serviced it also.

Currently not taxed as it has just run out. Waiting on the V5 to turn up. Probably sorn it for a few months so I can tax it for the whole summer and enjoy. Really want to drive it though............

Well, I intend to keep it standard about from some small engine tweeking.

It just needs a good clean inside and out.

Currently dismantling the centre console round the hand brake and gear stick so I can clean it.

But apart from that looks a nice car, well done on the find.

I would suggest just ripping away the falling apart leather on the gear knob.... then use a face wipe to get rid of any adesive, then pop the top of the knob with numbers on it if its loose , wack some silicone behind it and pop it back on. My gear knob now looks like its standard the way it is.....

Have already ordered a brand new gear knob.............

Wasn't my idea. My Father got carried away when he was ordering me the gas struts for the tailgate.

Well after some probing with my multimeter it looks like the heater elements in the drivers seat are goosed.

Passenger works fine and was useful in assisting in the diagnosis. Slightly complicated by the fact that because of the heated seat recall, there more wires than there used to be so caused a little confusion.

Next mission................. remove the whole seat and hopefully not set off the SIPS airbag whilst doing it.

Timo, out of interest have you managed to order a replacement genuine grey one? If so do you mind sharing your source?

Volvo.

I think it was around £60 bucks.

Its grey but the top where the numbers for the gears isn't as nice as the one that came off. If that makes sense.

I know when my Dad ordered it, there was confusion between the t5r knob and the 850r knob. Apparently one was much more expensive than the other. My old man went with the cheaper. I dont know whether it was the t5r or the 850r one we got in the end.

I have the right one then.

Have found the issue with my heated seat.........

2075020751

Nicely burnt out. However after quickly twisting the wires together again there was still no complete circuit. Further inspection found a broken wire. Just need to solder in some new wire and put the seat back together.

Talking the seat apart was a total PITA............

Happy days.

Heater pad soldered in two places. Some little square foam pads placed around the solders.

Car seat back toegether. Car seat back in car and all connected back up........

And now a very nice warm backside. Result!! and it cost me nothing. How long it will last is another thing.

After two years laying dormant in a barn I've finally got her back out.

Need new front shocks and anti roll bar links to pass MOT. New spark plus/distributor and rotor arm.

Now running a RICA ECU.

Wash and polish. Not bad for 21 years old.

Service next.... Bring on the the summer!!
