View Full Version : Stubborn Ball Joint nut (old wishbone)

I'm cleaning up my old wishbones that were taken off the car back in September and one had the ball joint removed but the other has the ball joint still attached.

The 18mm nut was totally welded to the thread and after soaking it over night it WD-40, this morning I went and brought an 18mm spanner and it still wouldn't shift. I ended up rounding off the inside edge for the hexagon tool and then decided to get drastic....

I got out my metal drill and I've tried drilling through the thead and then through the nut to try and drill the nut off and the take the ball joint off. Unfortunately, the metal drill is just churning out a few metal filings and hardly making a dent in the whole thing, I think this could be a long process.

I'm just wondering whether I should take the whole thing to an Indy garage, pay them £5 and get them to cut it off with a disc cutter or angle grinder.

Regards

James

only two ways to get it off really
heat it up
or cut it off

Heat is your friend everytime.

With the inner hexagonal hole now completely wrecked, I think it's going to be a cut it off job.
