To have a 18t with the 304 ecu on a 850 or is it too risky for the rods?

no it will be fine

i ran a 19t on a standard map, aslong as you keep the boost low. An AFR gauge would be very beneficial tho

Standard map? Not the hlm 304? How could I keep the boost low?

i've never had a remap. I just ran the turbo at actuator pressure (pipe straight from the turbo to the actuator bypassing the BCS), which on the 19t is 10psi

Also because the 18t will push more air does this mean you need to keep the psi lower? Basically is it the amount of air or the pressure that causes problems?

mike 850
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 09:42
Do you know what sort of power that gives?

T5frankie
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 09:43
there is hardly any difference in size between the 2 its only 10bhp

Between the 15g and 18t?

T5frankie

Between the 15g and 18t?

not really, i was thinking 16t though, which are used both with a 304 map

mike 850
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 10:12
so from a 15g to an 18t with a 304 ecu and i have a cat back too, its probably about 300 bhp at fly? and should be safe without any other tinkering?

lol in your dreams about 270-280bhp mate

mike 850
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 10:35
fair enough, I made 284 with my last 850 with exhaust, 304 and air filter so I guess there's no point fitting a bigger turbo.

I used to run my 18t with a 304 map and it run just fine i also took it on a rr with cleaned oranges in to check the fueling the afr's were fine running at 16psi and i made around 240 whp

mike 850
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 14:16
So after the 304 do you go custom to get the most out of the turbo or is that basically it?

t5 pete
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 14:21
It will be just alittle better than a 15g on a 304 map to get the best as always you will need a custom map for a 18t ive been running a mte stage 2 with my 18t for a while and that transformed my car but its also bent my rods next month when my new engine is back in i will be getting a custom map to get the best out of the 18t but will be on a forged engine the thing to rememeber with the 18t and 19t its rather easy to bend the rods if the boost comes in eairly myne was making full boost at 2.5k quite a agressive map but felt brilliant as pulled really hard up to 6k

those are very good figures from a 15g mate, a bit unbeleivable

Cool, that makes sense, with your new engine are you just doing rods? What ones have you gone for? Rsi?

mike 850
Wednesday 13th February 2013, 14:42
Well it is what the local rr gave me, and I got the car said standard so I can't compare as I only had it done once

Its full new internals rods for don new pistons either volvo ones or what ever the machine shop will supply full new bearings and a over haulled head so will be next to fully brand new
The set up ill have is
new 18t
3" angled down pipe
ths intercooler
blues or green/vxr depending which runs best with the map
Should hopefully be around 300 whp
Its suprising how much it actually costs to get to 300whp and keep it like that but then there all sorts including gauges to monitor and a strong and reliable engine appart from dean which seems to get away with owt he chucks at his engine
Another thing to rememeber when you do get to this sort of power its pointless unless in 1st or 2nd and 3rd in the damp condition unless you have a lsd

Isn't that quite low with those mods? My completely stock P2 T5 was 234 whp!

The p2 has vvt, better manifolds, bigger turbo, better intercooler and better map as standard over the 850

Not really all engines are different some get great gains while other dont seem to, also some owners of said engines like to exaggerate aswell honnestly is the best policy i knew the bhp wasnt the best but the tourqe i made was really impressive and i was happy with how it pulled,
But with a new fresh engine going in we will see what difference can be made.

hit the nail on the head there mate, you can only say what your personel experiences are like you said every engine is different,my dads for example made 260 ish whp (cant remember excactly) with a 304 map 16t and a couple of bits!! but aslong as your happy with your performance who gives a toss what the paper work says ;)

I made 280 whp with my old a p 1 v70 with a 19t and custom map. I thought p2s were 250 bhp as standard so depending on the dyno 234 whp sounds about right.

you lose more than 16bhp from engine to wheels

It was dyno'd at HLM on a dyno day back when this place was the T5 forum. Wobbly was there but I don't know if he remembers it or not. I've still got the print out somewhere. Everyone was surprised and asked what mods I had but it was completely stock
