View Full Version : Alternative to 'Tyre Gloss'

The other day I had a dilemma, my tyres looked a bit brown and tyred, sorry, I mean tired :P , but I'd not bothered to stock up on tyre gloss when I went to Halfords the last time.

So, I thought I'd try something else instead, I tried using 'Car Plan Black Trim Wax' and to be honest for around £5 a bottle, it's done a pretty good job. It hasn't made the tyres glow, but it has restored a natural look to the tyre rubber whilst taking away that brown look about it.

Don't get me wrong, it's messy and without gloves you'll almost certainly drain your household supply of Fairy Liquid whilst trying to remove it from your hands. But apply it regularly and in generous quantities to your tyre wall (not the tread!), and I think you'll find it restores the natural look of your tyres better than you might imagine.

I applied a second dose of it today whilst out cleaning the car (again!), and the build up really does give the car a 'lift'. I also did my external trim with it (as I do regularly), which vastly improves the overall appearance of the car, especially if you accidentally get Carnauba Wax on your black trim!

Does Megs High Gloss Endurance repel all the salt that is put on the roads at the moment?

No, and to be honest this 'endurance' gel usually washes off after a couple of trips in the rain. :D

The tyre suff is better in the summer when it's drier, this time of the year it's almost a waste of £10 a bottle because the road salt and the rain just wash it off. You're better off using the black trim wax in the winter as it has a dye in it that lasts longer. :D

Thought I would post a picture of how good megs degreaser really is. I tried my other degreaser out but it doesn't work on the tyres like the megs does.
This is the technique polished bliss use , they would never apply tyre gel to a tyre that hasn't been properly cleaned.
