Right then chaps I have an issue with my non electric function steering wheel
The wheel is either breaking up on the so called leather covering and coming away in little annoying sticky bits
Is there a cheap and easy way to sort this like some wet and dry over it or do I have to get a new one
Ta much

Get a good, strong degreaser like CB25 or Cilit Bang and give it a good scrub. You can go at it with 100gr wet n dry, then 400gr etc. to get it back to it's right colour. Then some leather restorer to protect it and put a bit of shine back into it.

Alternatively, what wheel do you have and I'll check the scrappy. I'm restoring a dark leather and wood one at the moment but it won't be ready for a while yet.

With the age of the wheel and having grubby hands on it for X number of years, coupled with not being looked after can make them go like that. It's all down to the kind of life it's had. The one I'm restoring looked pretty good till I started cleaning it. Then I realised just how ingrained 15 years worth of dirt can get.

You'll be able to fit any c/s/v70 wheel to it. May be a good time to upgrade? I'm waiting for another leather/wood steering wheel to come into the local scrappy, which I was gonna put on fleabay for a silly markup but I may just post it here first ;)

Graham was quoted 409 iirc for the wood/leather one. Good job I got him a 2nd hand one as he decided he didn't like it 2 days later lol.

Sounds like yours is beyond sandpaper mate.

You could always get one of those leather stitch-on steering wheel covers from halfrauds. I had one on mine till I got a replacement.

I think you might make it worse by cleaning it

A good clean and a go with the sandpaper can be a stopgap and although making it rough, will get rid of the rotten stuff.

That's providing the wheel in question is actually leather - if it's that foam stuff, it'll be a really bad idea to sand it lol.

I remember that, bit extreme when a good 2nd hand one can be so cheap. It depends how attached you are to your wheel I suppose.

Well I have taken some wet and dry to it and its made a huge difference but still gonna need a new wheel
We also tried changing the springs to be thwarted by the locating piece at bottom of the one rear spring as the bolt just spins in place and I'm too far from my local dealer to get one
