Is this the one on ebay from Southport suffering with a splutter? Did you get it sorted?

Biff
Monday 21st January 2013, 01:37
It is from southport & it does have a sputter under hard acceleration. I work funny shifts & the tax has ran out so until Wednesday I can't play. 1st job is a boost gauge to see if she's been played with. It could be an over boost with the way it behaves. It will also be having a diagnostic to see if anything has stored. I had a bargain with 11months mot. She does need tlc with silly little things but overall I think I got what I wanted. It's also not AWD anymore which didn't really bother me either. The service history is pretty detailed since new. It really has had £000's spent on it.
I'm getting used to the gay comments now boys, I'm afraid it's gay pride here in Wrexham as I'm the only gay in the village. Getting a Volvo that would blend in certainly went out the window!

Lol I guessed two of you did by your profiles. That's part of the stage 0 I plan to do the next few weeks. I have a list of parts & a nagging mrs to motivate me. I'm hoping to paint the wheels a lighter grey as they are nearly black. Is the egg crate grill standard? Cheers for the advice, any help is a blessing really.

No,eggcrate grill is from an xc70 or c70,cost a few quid too.I had black wheels before and really liked them.Once u on the road again let us know what symptoms yr car has and we all`ll try to help u.

Well basically it splutters when it has full throttle, any other time it's great but the engine warning light only comes on when the car is moving & doesn't stay on, like I said until weds I can't get it plugged in. Cheers guys, hoping it can be sorted pretty easy with a maf or sensor. Boost gauge 1st so we can see what it's popping.

Cheers guys, I've noticed the photos of the trip to the evo triangle, my mates & I often go up there in our toys. I should be able to keep up with them soon I hope. Claymore where is the local meet? I may be able to come if the car is ready & its not to far, I'm on the dreaded nightshift that night you see.
Just a quick question, I'm eyeing up a set of sfs silicone hoses (half tempted to buy orange lol) & they only list for a t5. As mine is a V70r will the kit fit ie the turbo externally is the same?
I'm studying everyone's build threads & gallery's at the moment looking for ideas. Lol

Too late!! Lol. Ordered them this morning from Sfs. I didn't fancy black or a themed colour. What bin lid induction kit is that?! It's hoooge. Lol I've ordered a panal filter this morning too along with a load of stage 0 parts off the list. I need a supplier for the pcv & breather pipe kit now really, can anyone recomend anyone?
Also I'm after some poly bushes for the anti roll bars, although power flex don't seem to stock them for the awd.
Been very busy in work this morning, the apprentice is knackered already. Lol

I thought the engine flush would aid it, can I ask why? The oil doesn't look the best & I'm guessing they'll be plenty of carbon in there. Some think that it can do more harm than good.

I'd just change the oil and filter, drive it for 500 miles (doesn't have to be one journey lol), then change them again.

U best to get rid of it gradually by changing oil as it goes a bit brown.Shell oils known for engine cleaning.

I've been down to the unit today & had a good poke around, all I can find is the heated seats don't work which I knew, the head light wipers don't work & I need the clip that holds the leather to the load carrier. Also the fuel gauge is reading half when its ran out on me while fiddling. Also the rpm isn't working which it did before, it's now displaying -------- for the mileage too. I've got a big box of bits already & picking up another box tomorrow. Here's a few pictures of the interior & the rest of the body. It's straight & pretty clean. On closer inspection the wheels are dark grey after a wipe down.

I moved the car today after near enough a full stage 0. We're waiting on the circlips & vacuum hose & we're laughing.
I took the car out (on a local private road of course) & noticed the car is holding back. We fitted a temporary boost gauge to see what's going on. Seems the car is holding boost no problems, but something didn't feel right. After a bit of investigation we realised the battery had been disconnected & no codes were being stored. Today after a run around the block we had an engine warning light. Managed to get the car diagnosed & it seems the air flow meter is playing up.
The codes are 00AA long term idle air trim & 233 adaptive idle regulation. Anyone know if this air mass?
Also while driving today I noticed the indicators don't work when the engine is running. Had the diagnostics ran over that & the clocks are screwed as I thought. The car is taxed tomorrow so I can get it home for a good clean & to carry on with the mini restoration. Here is a picture I took today not surrounded by snow or dark sky's.
Hoping my Paypal is now sorted as I will be having a box of bits off kingsford g.
Also as per my other post I hope to have a new lock set with remote central locking again.

The maf looks like a cheap fuel parts job & I've been told they're hassle. As per the message kg I'll have the lot.
I've looked at the vacuum hoses but I'm waiting for some orange silicone hose off fleabay.
On the rad front I'm struggling to find a rad with built in oil cooler as seems most places stock just the rad alone. I'm taking it to a local specialist with the hope of a repair.
I have definitely got the bug, I can't wait till she's on song. I've had slower than I like progress due to work but hoping it'll come along once its legal tomorrow.
Thanks for the comment, she only has a few slight marks but will come up ok with a detail.

Engines all the same mate but the radiator for auto has a built in auto box oil cooler.I thing it should push 10.5 or 11psi on R`s as stock.BCS sits on your air box,the side that faces the engine and has 3 vacuum pipes to it.I`ll be replacing all my vacuum lines too but I don`t think with a silicon ones tho cos under heat they soft like crap.Have a look if the pipes are running engine oil in the cooler cos it might be some one blanked original cooler and put an auto rad to use the oil cooler.

No mate there is definitely oil in it as its leaking in my water Hence the new rad. I really don't think there is another oil cooler in the bay. I will take some pictures tomorrow. I think I know what your on about but mine isn't by my air box, its between the back of the air box & is connected to the turbo with 3 pipes. I may invest in some standard hoses then. I'm looking online now... It's costing me a fortune but get the feeling its gonna be worth it.

If your car is manual just get a normal rad and make sure your standard oil cooler is connected.Bcs has 2pipes going from it to the turbo and 1 to the intake pipe a few inches below MAF.And yes it`ll be worth it once done.I spent about £800-900 on my previous R.U stard driving her and get rewarded by a nice drive when u need it and a power to take off.

I dont have a picture to hand of which pipes go to which part on the bcs but if you ratch around i found one somewhere. I cant even go look t mine because im running an MBC now.
Does sound just like what mine was doing though when the pipes were wrong way round.

Did the engine warning light come on when the pipes were on the wrong way? On the diagnostics yesterday I saw all the sensors doing there job, the maf seemed to be sticking or stepping as it was very slow. That's what's made us think its that you see.

Biff
Friday 1st February 2013, 17:19
I've checked the pipes today, they were on the right way. I've fitted an mbc today & its still holding back. The engine warning light came back on so I'm having its the maf. Next job is to clean the maf in hope & look for a genuine part. Brand new they are £233 which made me a bit dizzy.
With the rad I've taken some pics of the pipe connected to the rad.
This is from the near side of the car...
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d66/biff_3/6C6EF372-3F8C-4F85-82CF-0AF18697F19D-16737-000004A90D12A0E1_zps1f291121.jpg
As you can see the pipe is crimped on & go's down somewhere by the block. Is this for the oil cooler as I've been told it is. It's the pipe directly below the water pipe at the top.
A pic from the offside...

Just an update on the bullion. I've changed the clocks & ignition & door locks today. Seems my indicator problem was sorted with a new ignition barrel (thanks to kingsford g I now know how fast I'm going, how much petrol I have & can indicate, cheers for the bits mate.)
I used the vpcuk how to guide & it was a doddle.
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d66/biff_3/717B6A2E-F423-4709-82C7-38227A586CF3-17619-000004E3D714FE0F_zpsa5fad158.jpg
Both off side brakes are sticking on intermittently so guess an overhaul of the brakes, a rad, a maf & we're somewhere near.
I figure another £500 we'll be at a nice place. Maybe I should've just bought a decent condition car in the first place but then I wouldn't be out getting rained on & learning how these cars are bolted together. They are well engineered I feel & I'm really in love with my gay gold brick. Another thing I've considered is an exhaust but that can wait for now. The custom job on the car is shocking.
Thanks for your help boys so far.

Well done mate, glad its all sorted. This way u`ve learned the car so its worth it and she`s not bad at all and with the effort u putting into it she`ll be a cracking car.Mine came cheap too and doing some bits an pieces.Have u managed to make the remote work?

Thursday 7th February 2013, 18:43
It's vile isn't it Frankie? I've got a grey leather one on my watch list, along with a gear knob that's not been eaten by a dog.
It feels like a bus steering wheel at the minute. Lol
The remotes are being synced tomorrow kg along with a reset of the canbus system so my service light comes off. I'm certainly turning heads but its taken some getting used to the size of it. My first trip to tescos tonight which should be fun.
I'm looking for a facia panal so I can stick my sound system in & now I'm using it more its feeling like mine now. Lol
My main aim is to get it boxed off by march the first to take my family down the coast to my olds static caravan. It'll be here I'll carry out all the cleaning jobs I reckon when it warms up. The interior isn't that bad now I've put some elbow grease in but I think when it's Warmer the steamer may come out & leather dye, unless I get my hands on a black interior. After doing the dash today I wouldn't be phased about a dash swap.
The window rubber worked a treat, the ashtray has sorted the hole.

Bit of an update, today I overhauled the brakes with new seals & hoses & a fresh set of feroddo pads. I also changed the maf for a brand new Bosch item & once again flushed out the water system & added antifreeze. I'm really struggling to find a replacement rad with the oil feed off the turbo & a cooler built in.
I drove my car out the unit with a nervous feeling in my stomach as I knew I'd be able to open the taps a bit. To be honest I'm really impressed with it. She drives like a dream & is quick aswel as a lovely cruiser & now the engine has the correct fuelling it drives much quieter at cruising speed.
There is a possibility I may have to drive to hamburg on Wednesday with work so I'm trying my hardest to get a rad or get mine repaired by then so I can take the bullion on its first roadtrip on the autobahn.
I've had a chat with the local ford rs/st specialist & he's keen to have a dabble with my r after my wedding.
Hopefully now its on the road properly I'll be able to sort the exhaust, get to peterbourgh to pick up the black interior off Palmer to sort the inside our. Then I'll get my photographer mate to do me some decent pics to put up.
Thanks for everyone's help up to now & in the future. My bullion is a keeper indeed.

Bit of an update on the bullion, its been back off the road for over a month due to me working abroad (I officially hate German & French hotels now) & the death of my cousin. After I had it running brilliantly & taking my time I took a couple of mates out to clear my head. In one night I had a play with a 60 reg Subaru wrx saloon & kept with it. We did around 150 miles around the welsh A & B roads until the exhaust started getting louder. As I was taking her home I was faced with a local 55 reg BMW m5 & I had to see how I got on as bench mark. Obviously I got beat but it gave me a bench mark. Lol
After driving her in anger I've discovered a brake hose has split. Upon changing it I realised the hard brake line nut had seized on. I've got to re swage a new end on the hard brake line & bleed the system as my hydraulic clutch has dropped nearly all the way down, also I need to get an exhaust sorted. I'm looking at a jetex dual back box with a custom turbo back pipe. I've also noticed a milky substance in the power steering reservoir so will be purchasing a new one after speaking to a specialist.
On the rad front I found a replacement & used the 'Daz' method to flush the system.
Seems like the light has gone a bit further down the tunnel but I'm determined to get the old girl shipshape for summer.
Apologies for going off radar, to palmer about the interior too. Testing times. Lol

Thanks mate, I'm currently enjoying sleeping in my own bed with the mrs & my dog. I'm waiting for the foot of snow to go down before I crack out the tool box & get my knuckles grazed.
As for the nutter comment, I can't argue with that! Lol. Did you sort the head gasket out?

Been a long while since I updated this thread, lots has happened since, namely the Jetex is on....
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d66/biff_3/null_zps138d564e.jpg
Been limping the car around whilst I hunted some new brakes, soon we should have reconditioned calipers all around with fresh rear discs shoes & Volvo pads. As times gone on they have got better.
We have V70r clocks in blue back where they should be too, a nice momo knob & gaitor but still after a steering wheel. :(
I've purchased 4x Toyo proxes in the end, I do like the comets so they are staying...
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d66/biff_3/null_zps4c0a6821.jpg

Been playing today after trial fitting my boost gauge & my car running lower than standard boost for a while due to one thing & another I decided to turn my boost up on my actuator.
8) we're now boosting at 12-14 psi in all gears & wow my car feels like a brand new one coupled with my new toyo proxes Tyres.
A test flight with my mate down a local straight mile resulted in the both of us very impressed. The local bridge test brought back a considerable 135mph, exactly the same as a BMW m3 e36.
All on private roads of course.
To say I'm happy is a bit of an underestimate. ;)
I've weighed up my rip kit after seeing gavs (merc85) & think I'm going to chop up my standard pipe work this week in time for the Evo triangle. I'm also still looking into a map or myself mapping with tuner pro software.
Next up is to fit my brakes as mentioned, bit unsure what colour to paint my calipers, thinking focus st orange? fit my lowered springs & fooler bolts, fit my sub/amp, get my awd prop fitted & then to concentrate on the cosmetics ie paint, tc splitter, depo headlights & maybe some eyebrows. Mot is in November so I need anti-roll bar bushes & to solder my tracs/abs ecu.
I'm keeping it OE looking as I really like the fact people look at it as just a Volvo. :)

That feeling will be great Martin, I'm dying to find out what it'll drive like with a map & awd. It will be a different animal again.
Hoping to see my local dick in a scooby really soon. :)
At the moment I'm thinking of gripper diffs & all sorts but that all depends on a work contract & if I finally become a father. A baby or baby's will slow my modding but I'll have it kosher before any baby's arrive. Lol

and if there's no babies, buy an early P2 T5 - they require the same sort of effort and will also drain your bank at an alarming rate. then, taking-up class A drugs to give you that "haven't slept for days" appearance, for the authentic new father look

Update on the bullion.. Biffs been a busy boy but so have the boys helping out.
The cars all back together! Today has been a busy day of poly bush mounts of various types (need a bulkhead one but can only find standard issue.. Anyone got any ideas?) home made rip kit which might not be to everyone's tastes, but hey ho... Thermastat has been changed as found NO thermostat in the housing which is worrying. Aircon is removed & a boost gauge fitted. Also have got myself a temporary steering wheel as I'm getting my original restored by royal.
Future Plans now include maf to turbo pipe, mikalor clamps & a focus rs500 cone filter for some more chatter. This week it should have the calipers with new pistons & seals fitted with genuine f&r pads, gen rear discs, shoes & cables & should be lowered 30mm on front & 50mm on the rear.
I managed to take some pictures before I left, it still needs tidying & the blue pipe is to be replaced with black samco.
Cheers...

Love the RIP kit mate, nice bit of Bling! It's good to read you have been collecting parts and now at last are getting them fitted Dave. I like the colour of the Calipers they should look good mate when on.

I'm interested to see how it looks lowered... you will have no problem at all getting round the Triangle next year :)

By then I'm hoping for a locked transfer box & a custom prop if my idea works that is. lol I'll have to practise a few laps with the boys. Lol
As soon as I have it completed I will give you my verdict, can't wait really mate!
As for the bling, I'm afraid it's getting painted black, my plan is to do it all orange & black with silver details, I gave up on polishing years back & should we ever show together with our bonnets popped I'd like them to be different.
Can't wait to take it out & see how it handles, it's cost me a bloody fortune & many late nights/skinned knuckles/bad language/cups of tea later the gear box is back on as is the bottom end back together after the crank seal went.
Be nice to enjoy it for a bit. Lol
Thanks Ian. :)

I'm already looking forward to the Triangle in 2014 Dave and seeing your motor it's a totally mental day which you will really enjoy and if Mark comes in his Saffy it will be good to have 3 on show. Adrian did an excellent job this year. Plus Colin will be there just to show us all how it's done! :)

I've spent hours on my engine recently painting everything Black it looks much better now, just don't overdo the Orange or it will look naff!
Keep it simple....
I know all about cut knuckles and the odd swear word! None of these jobs are 5 minutes mate and they can be really awkward! lol
I hope we do show together one day and who cares if they look the same? I certainly don't! :)

Will you not be affecting your AWD system by lowering the rear end Dave?

I'm hoping your list of Mod's go well mate as you seem to be taking this project in a totally different direction and breaking new ground! :B_thumb:

Good luck!

Thanks mate, I'm having a break in work for the next few days then hopefully crack on & & get it back on the road this week. Mot on the 11th so I still have to solder my abs ecu. :s
I've had it on authority by he who shall not be named & a few of the yanks that dropping it 50mm will not affect the awd or nivomats at all. I'll put them on & see if it affects the ride but again I've been told it won't at all. I do doubt things I've read online though! Lol
I plan on painting my spark plug cover orange with black writing & then I'm done then bar maybe a black strut brace with orange splatter on it. :) everything else will be black or silver.
I'm planning on attending trax next year & racking up a few miles to a few meets as I've not driven over 150 miles in a day yet due to dodgy brakes. Would be great to get the saffys together.
Also planning a few other mods that I've not seen before but there is a fine line between going ott & keeping it right.
Cheers for your input Ian, you've learnt the long process of v70r awd ownership & you are my Yoda!
Oh the force is strong with this one. :)
