Well 3 and a half years to late here at last is my project. I have always wanted to do this but never knew how to put up BIG pic's until i was very kindly shown by some of you last week.

When i got the car i never dreamed it would get such a grip of me and slowly begin to take over my life. I really enjoy every aspect of owning a volvo, from driving to modding and being part of this friendly, amusing and very welcoming community!

I owe alot of the modding to t5frankie whom i have followed (stalked) from day one. I guess the reason for this is that he always put's up lot's of pic's for me to drool over and he has a Saffy which gave me something in common with him. I in no way want to copy his car as i think that would be boring but he has given me alot of motivation and enthusiasum.
So for that Frank i would like to personally thank you for all of your help and advice over the years!

I in no way think that this is a compition, I think we all have lovely and wonderful cars which are our pride and joy and i enjoy seeing the love and dedication that has gone into everyone's car on here. Even better when you see them for real!

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome and for all the help and advice you have given me, you really are a great bunch!

Just one thing that is bothering me, there has been a little rudeness over the past week to senior members. Now we are a very small community and there are not many of us, so we should stick together... but if i see this happening again i will say something.
I love a laugh and a joke but there is no need to be rude to members whom have been on this site for years and deserve some RESPECT! (rant over!) Please be polite to each other you never know when you will need a friend or help.

Right a couple of pics when i first got her, the only thing i added here was the front grill (and moose stickers xtra 24bhp!)

Frankie has been telling me the same for along time, it's on my to do list but the guy wants £65 per wheel and i am trying to think of ways to get the price down. I will hopefully get it done this year

After searching the web for months for a splitter i couldn't belive my luck when i found out Tomcat did them for next to nothing!

Thanks mate, after 2yrs it's still in perfect condition

I also used to paint the wording on the tyres every 2weeks or less... thank god i don't have to do that anymore!

Thanks mate, it really does doesn't it. I must of been looking for nearly a year Carbon Fiber Werks in the U.S did them but at £500 a pop! To find out Tomcat was doing them on our doorstep and for the money he charges! Well he is a real gent to do them for the price he does.

Probably.........sometimes i wonder if having a car with a 4.4 v8 as a daily is stupid (it is of course), but if you get enjoyment from it then its worth it.

I couldn't have some boring 1.1 hatch, driving on our roads can be bad enough as it without having to drive some lifeless, soul destroying eco box around.

Looking good Ian, shows you've put a lot of hard work, effort & love into your golden dragon! I'm not a massive fan of those style rear lights, but in context with the spoiler it does look quite good!! Possibly you could go one step further and have a black tailgate!

On another note, I used to use Eagle F1's as standard, but I found after they changed the tread pattern from the style you have in this photo, they kind of went downhill a bit! Did anyone else have the same feeling....or was it just the placebo effect of not liking the new style so much??

Thanks mate, i have thought about the Black tailgate many times, or just going all Black down the middle but that would spoil the Black grill. Another option i am still considering is going Black both sides and keeping the Gold in the middle.

I love the Goodyears the compound can be softer than some other Brand names but for comfort and ride noise they take some beating. They don't last long if you drive fast though which isn't an issue for me as i try to take it steady most of the time.

Thanks Liam i have to agree with you, the Crystals gave it a kinda clean fresh finish look which was the style i was going for at the time. I think what i'm trying to achive with the Black's is a more aggressive kind of look and to continue the Black and Gold effect. I'm not quite sure if i have managed to pull it off somehow.

Frankies and Adrians look really good IMO yet somehow i do not get that same buzz when i look at mine. I would really welcome and be interested to see what other members think...

The only problem is that when i'm driving one of the things that keeps popping into my head is Jamest5r dump valve blowing off as he blasted through the welsh countryside, it sounded lovely!

I will always want one after hearing that... I would be happy for a few weeks i guess and then it would be something else like... i wouldn't be happy until i was throwing 4 foot flames out of the back like Claymore... and it would go on... and on... and on... WOODY's title?! :hilarious

So i'm better off and safer in 'Grandads' auto and don't have to worry about bigger turbo's and thingyma jigs.

The wheels are on the cards just a bit lower down the list than i'd like

I think that big, black grille needs breaking-up with a silver emblem/badge of some sort as it overpowers the front a bit.

Personally, I prefer the new lights.

I'm with claymore on the light's they look great and I think M-R-P may be hitting the nail on the head that the grill needs something, Here is a little bit of a different idea, get your egg-crate grill back out and get some black insulation tape and tape up the outer chrome surround, then fit the grill and see what it looks like ( should look excellent, giving a look similar to what M-R-P is suggesting and different to everyone else's) then if you like it, you can remove the tape and spray the chrome black ( removing it from the car first....lol ).

P.S. They are Jayneybabes lights (she bought them and the car) she just lets me drive it when I'm good and if I'm bad , then I drive my T5-R , such a punishment....lol

Thats not strictly true though, you can go further than a remap but its more complicated and harder to find somewhere that will custom map an auto, which also means its going to costs more.

First of all if you do want to go further than just a normal remap, i'd definatly say get the extra oil cooler for the gearbox and get forged rods. 300bhp would be fine on a manual, but due to the nature of an auto, the same amount of power will bend the rods if driven hard.

Obviously, even with the extra cooler, there is only so much power an auto can take on these. I'v heard 350bhp is the limit with the extra cooler, but its the torque that will kill the box and unfortunatly i'v not found any information which show much torque they can take.

I think a genuine 310bhp would make for a fast auto while still being reliable........but i still think it would need forged rods.

The basics would be a tt ecu, gearbox cooler, forged rods and finding somewhere that will map an auto to suit i.e not going for as much torque as possible. Thats why its expensive though, as you wouldn't need any of those 3 to get 310bhp on a manual reliably.

Please don't take this the wrong way...

You need to dismantle the grille and wrap the components individually, using a heat gun or good hair dryer to stretch it over the edges and corners. It takes longer but will give you a far better finish. Try to use one piece if you can as joins tend to look a mess.
Without undoing what you've already done, remove the slash, peel the edges back and get them nice and hot to stretch them over the edges, you'll find they pull tight when they cool.

I've done quite a bit of c/f wrapping (you'll see it in Feb.) and a bit of practice and planning goes a long way to a pukka finish ;)

Had something similar happen on the drivers side of a MG metro, I was glad I was not going at my normal speed then, as it dragged me almost into the ditch on the opposite side of the road before I managed to wrestle it back onto the verge on my side of the road, good job there was nobody else on the road at the time, all this was due to a broken lower ball joint, one hairy moment that was..

Thats why i sold my s70r, to much hassle for me to get the car to a genuine 300bhp, so i sold it and got the 540i. 286bhp and 325lb/ft a standard, with a little bit extra from a remap.

Doing that boot opener and exhaust surrounding is going into a chav design in my opinion. There is a point where u stop and things u don`t touch.U could try to blackout the top half of the rear lights and c what`s that look like.

The older scratch on the left of the exhaust is one i did a few weeks ago.

Graham if i continue like this you can have the damn thing! I have just been for a quote for a respray, he will send it in a few days...

Well i went to Halfords this morning in Oxford. I drove into the car park and it's completely empty except for 3 police men sitting in their car on break.

I was a sitting duck!

One of them came over and i already knew what he was going to say... Your front windows are way to dark sir and your number plate is not spaced correctly and Halfords has moved just up the road!

So from this...

http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y474/Iancho68/023_zps61457993.jpg

To this...

http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y474/Iancho68/004_zpsf91a250b.jpg

I must say it's very strange after nearly 4yrs of being *Hidden* I feel quite naked now... I feel much better as i will not be worrying all the time when i see the Police. I will get them done again but this time they will be legal.

Yes i was lucky Martin... He said £60 for the windows and £60 for the number plate and as this is the second time for the number plate the DVLA could take it off me and put me on a Q plate which will de-value the car.

He let me off when i couldn't stop crying and wouldn't let go of his legs whilst begging him on my knees... He was a really nice guy actually and loved the Volvo.

I was lucky...

Martin very kindly agreed to Carbon wrap my grill as my attempt was extremely poor! I think you have to agree he did an amazing job. Just a word of warning if you are ever going to send martin money make sure you get his name wright as i got it wrong 2 times and have ended up paying another 2 Martin Peachey's £80!!!!

The end result is quite different from the photo's if i get time today i will take pics as i have the Doctors and the Dentist this morning and depends on wife being in a good mood! Many thanks Martin you have done a very good job!

A little knowledge goes a long way - it's not that hard, you just need to take your time and be careful.

I'll be more than happy to show anyone how to do it. :D

EDIT - I just realised that the c/f on the slash matches-up with the c/f on the surround! bloody hell - I AM good lol ;)

LOL.. the pictures do not do it justice Martin... And YES you are Good and very kind to everyone on here :B_thumb:

It does look very nice.....another part of your car complete, Martin's not bad with the carbon fibre is he, it's not until you see something he has done till you appreciate how good he really is, puts those of us with limited practical skills to shame.

Thank you Graham, he really is a talented young chap, don't worry you and i will find our forte in life one day :)

Yeah thats what worries me LOL...

I still have some jobs to do so fortunatly for me it will be a while before i get to that stage... I remember Dean posting a while ago wondering what to do next, it's like these cars give us something to do and dream about all day long while we are at work earning a living... UNTIL it's finished... Then we become a little lost LOL

18's or 19's look good. But in Grey. Im not so keen on the white/silver wheels.

Also i like your front splitter.... Is that an 850 one ??

Ultimately I'd say it's down to the ride, if you can put up with the harsher ride then go with the 19's (they may need a refurb though) although the 18's do look good (not seen them up close)

Cheers WOODY, the 19s are alot harder and you can feel everything through the tyres thats why i have ordered some new ones in the hope that the ride is a little gentler... Although i realize that it will not make too much difference. It feels really good to have the 18s back on.

Thanks matey... I'm not sure what the splitter is as Tomcat made it for me. Get in touch with him he will do one for you too. I think he does two types if i remember correctly, one for the 850 and one for the 70 series. PM him mate he is a really nice chap and very cheap too £130 i think.
