I have been looking for a custom rear since I had the car Craig but cannot find one for sale... It shouldn't look too bad, well we all thought it looked ok at the Body shop.

I made a custom rear for the 850 bumper I'm sure I could make some moulding of the add on bits if your interested?

I wait in anticipation Craig

Martyn if you think that 2 Bumpers looked good joined together, then that's good enough for me

I've looked for years on the European forums but can never seem to find any that are for sale... I spent 100's of hours trying to source them and eventually gave up through frustration...

Maybe the car just needs a clean, might have picked up some dirt/dust sitting around.

Always kind words Graham

Dunno mate it could be the angle of the skirts against the car or it could be a miss-match, not much I can do about it

Friday 2nd August 2013, 22:58
Plus the angle of the skirts is different to the angle of the doors. That having been said, I've always found that paint sprayed onto plastic/GRP never matches paint sprayed onto metal.

I was thinking the same steve about the angle and the light... Plus Saffron is notoriously difficult to match perfectly everytime

Nope. I think it's about as close as it'll get.
The texture will be diffeent between the new and old paint and will be for some time. I've been looking closely at the pics (on a 42" 1080P screen) and the paint colour looks spot on, the reflection from the top coat is a lot clearer - that'll calm down after a few washes and waxes and it'll look perfect.

That's my opinion any-hoo :)

I would never attempt it again Adrian it's a ridiculous amount of work, very slow and fiddly. I only have the 4 Blocks at the back to complete and it's finished. I usually try and get out at 5 or 6am and put a few hours in before the wife gets up.

As for how to keep it looking nice?..... it seems to be holding up quite well with a little Auto Sol but the winter will be the real tester.

Looks bloody excellent mate, a lot of hard work gone into that!! No.2 for me.

I used to have the full set of Wooty Bits on the S70, a few years ago. The only bits that I actually think look good now, and improve over the standard bits are the spark plug and fuel rail covers. The rest of the bits look a bit like 'Ripspeed stick on' stuff. Defo remove the throttle cover from the top mount too! If it was mine i'd also lose the Pipercross filter, it just looks out of place IMO.

Ian, didn't I say something about pimp-slapping you if you put a vent on that thing?!?

The only way I can see it working is if it's right at the top pf the bonnet, facing the windscreen as an out-flow vent. Will you be cutting the bonnet to make it actually work or will it just be cosmetic? If you cut the bonnet, expect all your shiny engine bits to not stay shiny for long - winter's coming and all that water and road salt...:(

I know it's your car and I really want you to do whatever makes you happy but you're treading a very thin line here bud. I just don't want to see a wanted thread appear in a few weeks for a saffy bonnet.

I know mate it's a tricky one to get around it wouldn't matter so much if I hadn't polished the engine, I'm wondering if I can get away without cutting the Bonnet as it's just 6 bolts but I'm not sure how much drag it will create at high speeds and try to rip the whole bonnet off!
You had best send the Boys round to slap me lol

Err.....I'm gonna reserve judgement until I see it painted and fitted, but I kinda concur with MRP's comments about your shiny engine components not staying shiny.

Sorry mate but I'm not feeling it, but its not my car. As said if your not happy you can change your bonnet so its not un-reversible.

what is the purpose of the vent Ian, for engine cooling or just for the look of the thing? As above probably pointing backwards would let the warm air out, which would be more useful I think

Hopefully they will mate :)

As for the original idea... They were going to be Black but with the inner edges on the Spokes Gold and the Spoke with the 'R' on was going to be Completely Gold if you can picture that?

I've weighed the Air Scoop up and I will be using the two original washer holes and just drill another two lower down, then Bolt and Glue it on.
I've decided not to Cut the Bonnet under the Scoop I will just Paint that area Black, otherwise it will ruin my Shiny engine.

I will move the Washer's about 3 inches across each side of the Scoop.

The Scoop will not be 'In your face' just a subtle mod to give it a more aggressive look from the front :)

dont do it .

the car is immaculate , it does not need one.
if you really want vents, how about getting proper pressed in ones. there used to be companies who could do your own bonner, without painting by stamping it in once warmed.

Wow some new changes, the wheels look ok. Surprised you changed the colour as you were quite against the darker colours when you had them done originally?

As for the scoop I'm sorry but for me you've ruined the car from the front, be interesting to see it again with the number plate in the correct place as that may make the front end of the car look quite a bit different, that said to me it's lost the classy well kept look it had previously now it looks a little cheap.. Sorry it's probably harsh but it's what I think. but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what I think as it's your car and your clearly very happy with it and for that I'm glad it's worked out well for you :)

Looks good mate, bonnet scoop doesn't look as bad as I thought it would even if it is pointless. ;)

I'm surprised!..... Many thanks for the positive comments lads :)

You know when you have wanted something for soooooo long that you cannot see the wood for the trees.... Well that's me and the Scoop. Have I spoilt the car? Probably the answer is Yes but it makes me happy.... I can always buy another bonnet as a spare....

I would like to believe that all your comments are honest as I would be in no way offended if you didn't like it. You cannot offend me as we are all friends on here and go to meets together..... I think no less of anyone :)

The wheels?.... Well as the light started to fade they started turning Black and now under the Street light they are Jet Black. Just something different to try and see if it works....

This car was never going to be a 'Normal' project so after getting the car in Perfect Showroom Condition I now seem to be destroying it in front of everybody's eyes...... that was always going to be the case I've just done it in reverse order.... Sorry!

lol my missus wants me to get another v70r too

We both can't be wrong!

Your car looks the big firm breasts mate

Cheers mate! :B_thumb:

You know I'm not gonna be able to sleep now :(

I'm deffo going...lol

lol... not long to wait :)

Looks smart ian im only on my phone so carnt see the pics very good but I do like the wheels they really stand out and supriseing the scoop doesnt look bad at all

Thanks Pete so far so good mate

The bonnet scoop doesn't look out of place, it looks like it was factory fitted :)

The car looks awesome :)

Thanks mate it does kinda blend in lol

I knew that scoop would look ok, now we just need to make it functional and make a duct to the top of the air filter ;)

I knew you would!.... I'm already thinking Col...

Actually looks pretty good matey :)

Cheers Jim, it's not so bad mate.

nice update ian! looking shweet!
just noticed your plate says big boob :rotfl:

lol.... Thanks for all your help bud in tracking the Scoop down for me.

It wouldn't be something I'd do, but it aint half as bad as I thought it would look.
I stand corrected mate, im loving checking out the Saffy...gives me ideas but I don't want to copy anyone lol

Cheers Wayne... It's just 'Different' lol

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Come on, what you thinking mate?!

I'm with the majority on these mods mate, the scoop doesn't actually look that bad, the wheels I'll have to see 'in the flesh' and as for that number plate.....turn up at mine with it there and I'll move it myself lol

I will be at yours soon enough mate and we can move it together onto the Bonnet! lol

why? ian blatently did lol

You and VPC built half of this car! lol

Don't be sorry Andy you have probably summed up what everybody is secretly thinking matey.... and you could never offend me mate!
The wheels? Well I thought you cannot all be wrong by telling me to go Darker.... You were all correct, they DO look better Darker!

hummmmm, errrr hell doesnt matter what i think. its still a very clean car and if you ever did want to sell it im sure the mods could easily be changed back. (just dont cut the bonnet) pleeeeeeease. :/

Cheers Gav, I know mate lol.... The Bonnet is already ruined so it means getting another anyway. I was going to have this one re-sprayed... I could get the spare done instead.

Looks good mate, bonnet scoop doesn't look as bad as I thought it would even if it is pointless. ;)

lol cheers Steve it's not the end of the world

Front end looks the dogs ££££££££, not sure about the plate position but scoop and splitters look great, has a very mean look.wheels and brakes v nice too.

Cheers mate, she does look kinda nasty now.... Does the number plate really look that bad lads??!!!

Liking what I see, but reserving full judgement until Sunday, when I see it in the flesh. Quite surprised that Ian has unveiled his new mods before sundays run, guess he wanted to gauge the feeling about his marmite mods before meeting everone and I can't blame him ...lol

Cheers mate, I wanted it done before the Triangle so you could all see it in the 'Flesh' so to speak and get a real idea of what it looks like as Photo's never look so good as the real thing :)

Check your phone Ade I sent you a txt last night to see if I've got the correct number :)

Saturday 5th October 2013, 13:52
The finish is really good on your car Ian, if you like the mod that's all that matters! Not my cup of tea but it does make it look more agressive from the front.

Saturday 5th October 2013, 17:21
If you got the number plate done as one of those stick on racing type ones and stuck it where it is it might look better, it just looks a bit like its just sitting there .imho it slightly spoils the sleek look of the front end which I think looks very aggressive, the flat plate doesn't blend with the otherwise good aerodynamic look you have achieved at the front.
Good on you mate for having the nuts to go ahead and realise your vision of how you wanted it to look.I love it .

Well as I said this is a car that needs to be seen in the flesh, as the new scoop works very nicely, as everyone on the evo/great orme run have said, with alot positive comments, probably one of the best V70R awd's in the country (until next year...lol) Thanks to Ian for making the long trip up to wales for us to see his all great work in action and it certainly does look good on the move as well as stationary. The Marmite wheels in my mind add a lovely contrast to the black and gold theme. Top work Ian go to the top of class and pin on your merit badge mate... http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/showthread.php?51559-Great-Orme-Run-any-interest

Adrian, Steve... You cannot guess how surprised and flattered I was to come onto VPC today and find that you have both posted pic's on my thread!

I'm touched... Honestly!

Thankyou both and to everyone else who has said good or bad things.... It means a lot to me, I realise it is not everyone's cup of tea :)

As for the Evo Triangle..... Well if I'm prepared to drive a total of 8hrs plus a 500 mile round trip 2yrs in a row need I say more?

Everyone's behaviour was impeccable, no laws or speed limits were broken.... Just your Typical Sunday VPCUK Drivers! :)

A BIG thankyou to Adrian and Janeybabe for going to so much trouble and making it another year to remember... and to everyone who turned up... without you guys there would be no nice memories and it would be no fun at all! :B_thumb:
