Ever since ive had the t5 every times its been off the road for 6 months or more some thing has gone wrong with it and i knew it would happen again this time just had that bad feeling.
Well took the t5 for its mot today after its been off the road for well over a year all went well and the car sailed through with no porblems what so ever great i thought went and put some tax on it and thought ill give it a nice steady run up to the petrol station put £90 of the best in her and off i went running lovley i though ill take it nice and easy for 10-20 mile let every thing pad back in and cercaluate after that i thought ill set the boost controller to a low setting just above standard all went fine no problems then put it to the next step which is 15-16psi fine in second so got to 40 and tryed 3rd built find then coughed and splutted i was watching the boost gauge it hit hit 19psi so back off and pulled up and geuss what tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap yep so most likley will have done a rod it does sound to be from the top but i geuss the noise can travel up wards.
So after £40 mot £122 tax £90 of juice im back to square one.
Choices
1 strip the engine find the problem and then rebuild with new rods shells etc maybe pistons depending on there condition £1300
2 Break the chuffing thing up and go back to the 240 which has never been a bit of bother and be well off from the parts money off the t5.

I very much doubt the second choice will ever happen ive worked way to hard to buy the t5 10yrs ago on a apprentices wage then all the time money and effort ive put into her.

So next question where the best place to get rods from they must have the cut backs for the shells to locate like the one in the pic

Cheers buddy yeah its just very tappy think ill go collect the other engine out of donnas c70 i broke and swap it over for the time being and strip myne down and rebuild it over a couple of months just need to find out now why it spiked weather theres a problem with the electric boost controller or some thing else its a shame as before i took it off the road it run lovley at 20 psi never had any problems or spikes and the annoying thing is it didnt even touch 20 psi when this happend

ive ran an engine at 22psi for months but yet in a different engine it has happened as soon as ive tried to run that boost, its probably cos you're car aint been used for so long that it did happen

Hey dean i think the boost limiter is set at 22psi peak god knows what happend the boost did come in very quick but was at a decent rpm never mind will drop the engine tomorrow and collect the other one ready to fit on sunday then strip myne and find the fault and repair.

Were them rods you got off me no good?

Ended up selling them as i needed the money at the time also there seems to be two types of rods one with cut back's for the shells to rest in and the other with none which was the cause of the shells spinning in yours.

Oh yes will deff be taking it easy once its all back together and setting the boost low ish, ill get the old engine on the stand and have a good strip down and inspect then will start rebuilding from there and can inspect weather i the original con rods on that engine has the locating cuts or not.
Once its all back together got to take the car to have a new straight pipe made up for the new down pipe and cat to join to the exhaust so will be late next week hopefully before i get to take it for a run.

The new clutch is awesome so smooth going to give it a good run out at the week end and will start stripping the old engine tomorrow

You always did say that engine seemed "slower" than other T5's. Now you have a chance to test that theory.

Well had a little look around and also so finally find out weather the original shells in the rods used cut backs to rest in place
first a little damage on the crank thats where the top of the rod has been hitting it
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt39/t5pete/IMAG0968_zps59e2bee9.jpg
Shell cap
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt39/t5pete/IMAG0969_zpsbb252b92.jpg
The shell cap does have a tiny cut back but it isnt uses as the shells down have any notches to sit in them
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt39/t5pete/IMAG0970_zpsf5887d6a.jpg
And the shells they has no wear on them at 145k
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt39/t5pete/IMAG0971_zps88875d05.jpg
http://i595.photobucket.com/albums/tt39/t5pete/IMAG0972_zpsb2762693.jpg
So next job buy the rods then take the crank to be reground and balanced with new shells made up at the machine shop
And my other project soon to start
