During the past Month my power steering resevoir has needed topping up every week or so and I've noticed that the fluid already in the resevoir has a thin layer of bubbly foam on top. I've been told that the PAS pump may need replaced. Anyone know what's causing this and do I HAVE to replace the whole unit???

Have a look in the tank,a pipe can come away inside the tank and cause this problem on the p2 cars.
Not sure if the p1 are the same?.

If it needs topping up regularly then you have a leak. Put the vehicle on full lock then have a look inside the wheel arches down the track rods to where they join the rack boots, if there is any red fluid around the rack boots then the rack is knackered (this is where mine has been leaking for the last few years !). If it's dry then you need to look for signs of leakage round the pipework and around the pump.
