Evening all,

Im about to do an oil change on my 850r but as usual i am bogged down with to much to choose from. Has anyone tried valvoline durablend? Eurocarparts have some good deals on that at the min but its semi synthetic so not sure. Whats best fully synthetic or semi/standard oil?

In a nut shell my car gets used heavily and quite hard most of the time, does a lot of stop start short journies, has covered 170k and has standard power. Can anyone recommend an oil as im unsure what is in it at the moment as the previous owner changed it last.

Also can any generic oil filter be used or should i go to volvo?

And ive tried the search bar but no joy :eye-poppi

Thanks in advance

I use a generic filter and carplan 10/40 semi synth, changed every 5000 miles. Runs smooth as silk with 195k on the clock.

The "upgrade sports" stuff would be 5/30 full synth but it makes the engine noisy.

Ive just done an oil change as its done 5k since last change. I used fully synthetic oil. I was always under the impression that fully synthetic oil is better than part synthetic....... Some free education would be greatfully recieved

Like I said, the full synth stuff is a sporty upgrade, if you do track days and generally run the car hard.

10/40 semi makes the engine quieter and smoother, (and cheaper) but isn't suitable for racy applications, which I prefer.

I did notice, but to be fair you dont mind getting your hands dirty too. I wish i had all the tools needed to do every thing myself. I use my trusty haynes manual.... Im fitting new Performance discs/pads on front and rear at weekend. But i do need to sort my front n/s cv joint out soon. Ive been advised to just source a whole new drive shaft with decent cv on on it. Much easier apparently??

Not something I've had a go at myself.
There's plenty of peeps here who have, so start a thread and you'll probably get the info you need pretty quickly. ;)
