Right, as mentioned in the intro section Ive just got a Y reg S60 T5 in black.
However there are a few issues.

Firstly the cd player display is very dim, almost off. Cant see anything to turn brightness up. Any ideas?
17388

Next is the blower. It doesn't come on at all but all the lights come on as normal. Seller said it may be a fuse. I wouldn't know were to look or if thats the issue. Any ideas?

Next is the wing mirror adjustment toggle. Looks like the casing is split or something, but still works. Is this a common fault?
17389

Also, the center console drinks holder is missing the cover. I assume an easy replacement? Also the center armrest appears to have had a few too many elbows on it. Again and easy replacement?
1739017391

The message display on the dashboard says alarm service every time the ca is turned on. Is this serious?
17392

Another thing is when im driving and go over bumps, the wheels feel wobbly like theyre loose. Obviously theyre not or id of crashed. Had a lexus is200 which didn't have this issue.

The headlight washer wiper doesn't seem to have blade. And no idea how to activate it. Any help?
17393

Hope you guys can help me, especially with the blower and wheels issue.

Ok, easy one first... Headlight wiper activates when you wash the windscreen.
chop up an old wilder blade and fit it.

The alarm warning is normal and about 100 quid to do yourself.

There are a few phase 2 cars being broken on the forum so armrest and cup holder shouldn't be a problem but you can't swatch the drivers door switchpack as its coded to the ecu.

I dunno how to fix the stereo :(

The wobbly wheels is likely to be wishbone bushes - recommend polybushing them.

Did I miss anything?

Bailz
Sunday 4th November 2012, 15:56
I wouldnt know anything about wishbones except for ones on a chicken lol.
What about the blower?
Whats that about a swatch the drivers door?

Sunday 4th November 2012, 16:03
I'd recommend polybushing the wishbones as MRP says best mod per pound spent you could do on your car the handling will improve massively, the wind mirror controls can be fixed with a liberal dab of superglue to fix the 2 half's back together very liberal mind you don't want to glue the actual stick in place just the cover.

The center console drinks holder cover s probably missing because it was broke common fault on our cars suggest looking for someone with a later model S60 04+ that is breaking as they changed the fitting. Its a matter of replacing the entire center armrest unfortunately as its a built in unit, this will solve your arm rest issue also.

blower is probably a fuse check the fuse box and replace the fuse if it blows again its the blower motor which is located behind the dash drivers side I think.

Alarm service isn't a big issue and can be fixed for about 100 quid as MRP says, I currently have this fault on mine and it doesn't cause any problems.

No idea on the CD player except maybe a fuse or the LED back light on the screen but I have no idea how to fix either of those sorry

Sorry n you can't swap the drivers door switchpack (the thing with the mirror control)

The fuses for the cabin are in the drivers side of the cabin, open the door and theres an end cap on the end of the dash. Pull it off and you'll see the fuseboard.

TIP... Do NOT unplug any green or Orange connections without disconnecting the the battery for an hour or two first.

Best way to check if its your wish bones are shot jack the car up on one side at the front grab your tyre and shake if theres any play at all your wishbones more than likely need doing

I have the alarm warning, as does my mate with a D5 V70. Very common fault.

If your not confident doing your own wishbones buy the parts and then take it into your local Indy they should charge you about 1-2 hours labor to fit. I did 1 side my self but couldn't get the other side out so got the Indy to do the other side.

The switches are all prone for hair line cracks, there was a technical thingy sent to all main dealers but it was never a recall,. I had my switch pack replaced under warranty because of it.

Right. Ill look at the fuse box by driver door tomorrow and glue the mirror swith also.
Ill also check the wishbone with the jack in the boot too.
Were would i get these poly bushes etc?

Dont have many tools at all. Especially none like those. Ill jack it up tomorrow and check for wheel wobble

M-R-P
Sunday 4th November 2012, 19:56
Take the wheel off and look at the bush at the front of the wishbone (the one I changed) look for damage and get a screwdriver between it and the subframe and see if you can lever it about.

So im finding it impossible to jack the car up with the one in the spare tyre. It is a volvo one. The hook doesnt sem to go into the jack points and im not balancing it on the top. Any ideas?
Also had a look at the fuse box. The one for the blower look toast. Dont knOw if i could pick it out or would need to take it to an auto electricians. Also in the pic, the ones for the headlights have melted a bit

You'll need to open the hook out a bit with some pliers to get it on the jack points, I'm always squashing mine (I use it to hold suspension components while I work on them)

As for the fuse board... HOLY $H1T!! that does not look good. You could probably find a replacement fuse board (they unclip) but I would want to find out what caused the problem first, to stop it happening again. Best guess is the heater shorted somewhere and somebody "reinforced" the 10A fuse that was in there to stop it blowing - causing the small fire in the pic.

As for the headlight fuses, check all the bulbs. If any are 100W or brighter, get them out and put standard ones in. If you have normal bulbs and they work as they should, they've probably been swapped already and you'd do well to replace the melted fuses and monitor them.

And what's that bit of domestic earth wire for?

Investigate the cause of that fuse box mate, even I know it shouldn't look like that, you don't want a fire under the bonnet.....

Reckon I could try a new fuse? Or take it to an auto electrician? as I wouldn't know how to check for other issues. And Ill be sure to replace the headlight fuses too.
Ill check what that random wire is in.

M-R-P
Monday 5th November 2012, 15:49
I doubt it would be worth replacing the burnt fuse as whatever caused that must have been pretty catastrophic. I would imagine the heater is shot, (probably the fan unit)

Right. To the auto electrics it goes. Or does anyone know of any volvo specialists i. North west. Not being volvo

Bailz

Found a couple of specialists int north west. But in the mean time i looked in the fusebox again. The random wire is from the telephone fuse. No idea why as theres no phone. Took a pic of the fuse diagram anyway.

Wobbly wheel problems? Want to compare notes? I've got this problem still and I've replaced the front wishbones, front ball joints, front drop links, had a 4 wheel alignment done (twice!), and my wheel still feels really loose. My advice is check the previously mentioned (especially ball joints!) and failing that check your stuts and mounts because that's my next job as the ones on my T5 are completely knackered - especially the mounts.

As for the console lights, there could be bulbs out and as for the centre console rest I agree with previous comments and that's to get one from a scrappy or fleabay.

Hope that helps.....

Regards

James

There's a clip, at the top behind the black frame, push it in and the fuseboard hinges down and pulls out...

BE CAREFUL! upsetting the wiring on these cars can lead to all sorts of agro!

Other fuse boards are under the bonnet on the right hand side and (on a V70) in the boot on the passenger side, behind a A4 sized bit of removable trim.

Blimey, just switched on laptop this AM and greeted with this pic. That takes me back. When I was a student, I had a Triumph Acclaim with a board like this. Couldn't stop a couple of fuses blowing so just used 1p pieces, rather than actually find the cause:o

Couple of days later, me and my mates found ourselves warming our cockles next to the raging inferno that was my said Acclaim. AND, there was about £50 worth or beer in the car!!!

My advice to you, and advice from everyone else here I suspect, is FIND THE CAUSE. It may be a spectacular pain in the @rse but if you have a wife and kids.............

Didnt get the wheel off. Was shaking the wheel too hard and car fell off the jack lol. Plus no ruddy spanner to do the wheel nuts.
Anyways, took it the volvo specialists not far from myn. They did a diagnostics check. Loads of errors for the climate control system. They think the motors gone. So its booked in for monday morning and getting the once over also. Gunna cost a few quid but worth it i think. Need to sell my old lexus quick. Any takers lol?

Get yourself on ebay and find some basic tools, you don't wanna be stuck in the middle of nowhere for the sake of a wheelbrace or a pair of pliers.
When they sort your heater, they'll do a health check on the car. Post the results here and we'll find you the cheapest means of sorting it. ;)

Can I ask what is the Wire next to the Cup holders, near to the Gear lever?
Also I've replaced my Door cards and switches with Leather ones from an SE, I've had no problems at all, so you can replace your switch with another one. ;)

If you mean the wire inside the centre console, underr the cup holder, it could be one of a number of things (I have 2 plugs + rear cig. lighter) there were various options, one of them being a lit ash tray.

So ive just spoke with the garage.
Theyve figured the issue with the climate control is the ecu control. Aparantly expensive.
Also the top mount on the offside fron suspension needs fixing.
Also an issue with the throttle body.
They say it may be worth just selling it and getting a different one.
Im going to see them wednesday.
What do people think i should do?
Get it fixed or sell to get a different one?

Get it px'd while you can mate, before it becomes a money pit. There are other things on that model/year that can go wrong too, if you already have throttle and cem issues, the last thing you'll need is the speedo failing (£700+).

I understand completely, you can grow very fond of these cars very quickly. That's why my 9 year old ex plod with over 194k miles now owes me over 3 grand.
If you px it for a 2004 T5, you'll never have the issues you have/will have, as the electrics were sorted by then.
Choice is ultimately yours mate and we'll help with any problems you have but personally, unless you're prepared to shop around for expensive parts and part with a fair few quid, I'd chop it in.
Fixing these cars can become an obsession for perfection very easily lol ;)

The V70 is closer to the S80 (haynes book of lies covers both) but they're all pretty much the same. A V70 however is extremely versatile (its what the V stands for) they weigh a little more and interior trim in the boot can be rattly on bumpy roads.
