I have a 53 plate t5 v70 and this week my neighbour informed me that whilst at work my alarm kept going off,I kept an eye out and sure enough it keeps going off and sometimes just the lights flash with no audible sound and on the odd occasion you get the horn noise as well.Coupled with this I have noticed that there is what i can only describe as a faint 'crackling' noise (similar to putting on an old vinyl record) coming from under a fuse type box cover situated in front of the drivers side of the engine.I removed the plastic cover to show 2 silver boxes.one labelled bosch 6.2 and one Temic 27.1.It crackles away while the engine is hot and cooling down but It hasnt been heard first thing in the morning before its warmed up.I dont know if the 2 are linked but hopefully someone can put me straight.I am leaving the car unlocked at the moment and i will remove the alarm siren fuse but I'm worried that the constant flashing lights will drain the battery

The alarm siren is on its way out ,it has backup battery inside of it when they fail they then leak onto the pcb which gives you the fault you have.
the siren is in side the drivers side front wing ,to get to it remove road wheel drill out the rivets that hold the liner in place towards the front of the car and you will see it.
There is a anti tamper bolt that holds it in place the hard part of the job is to drill out this bolt, the new siren will just plug in no need to get it coded.

Any tips on where to get one at a reasonable price?...or alternatively is there any way of disconnecting the alarm and siren?...The car is 8 years old andi doubt if anyone wants to nick it!

its not a hard job,
mostly removing plastic crap lol.
not sure if you can disable it as such,i guess you could unplug the siren, but im sure it will leave a warning up on the dash, and i expect it to affect the central locking or something,as most of these over complicated things seem to get upset if one item is unplugged or disconnected, might be worth a try tho,
