v40 key fob that came with my car does have 2 be set up by volvo itself? as nt wrking

i have 2 key fob i got with my v40 both have strong signel as they were tested but niether work on my car they must have worked with the car at one point as cant see some one just buying 2 fobs an not getting them set upto car. so im just wondering if ide have to take them to volvo to get them working with my car or is there something i can do ive heard online like lock car take battery out press both buttons 6 times an put back in then try unlock it an another one off flick ignition on an off until the light on dash speaker cover flashs than press both buttons but neither did anything

any advice would be great thanks
