Well even though progress is exceptionally slow I think its about time I started my Project Thread, So here goes...
The idea is to throw a 2.3 T5 engine into a Sierra Sapphire and then use it for trackdays, Drag racing & a bit of drifting if it holds together lol.

This is my first ever project I've never done anything like this before and I'm basically just making it up as I go along.

Engine with be pretty much standard to start with with the exception of a 16T, Blues and an off the shelf map however I don't imagine its going to weigh
much so it should be a bit lively.
Engine aside basically I'm looking at making it light, rigid and getting it to handle well, so two lightweight buckets, no other interior, a few braces and some
all new suspension is on the cards ..... when I manage to get the engine in.

It's a 1989 Manual 1.8LX Sapphire with no power steering and electric nothing lol bought it for £600 which I don't think is much of a bargain but prices for
these do seem to be creeping up.

Here's how it looked when I got it home a couple of months ago..

Not in great condition but seen worse can't really argue seeing as it was made in 1989 :)

After a week or two of poking it about I got round to stripping the interior, Still the odd bit left behind that I haven't got round to yet.

http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg605/davec70t5/Sierra%20Project/2012-06-24162711.jpg
The current Interior consists of:
A steering wheel, Interior mirror and 3 pedals lol

For no real reason other than I felt like it at the time I decided to remove the rear door handles and fill them
http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg605/davec70t5/Sierra%20Project/2012-05-06192542-1.jpg
http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg605/davec70t5/Sierra%20Project/2012-05-06192521.jpg
Which resulted in my neighbours cars getting dusty... oops!
However I'm not sure I like the filled look so may replace the doors for ones with handles again

Then I started removing the engine but I haven't got a hoist so just started pulling bits off

That's all for the minute will update as and when something interesting happens.

Cheers

got my vote , proper cool this , smithy a yb would be the easyest route as they camewith them in anyways , or a 24v boa but i likes the sound of a 5pot in a saph , theres a mk1 sierra with a turbo m50 bmw engine in somewhere on youtube .

it won't matter if you find the other set because they are both right hand side...........................only you could buy 1 set of left hand lights and 1 set of right hand lights..................thought you were more intelligent than that lee......................

Nothing too exciting finally got round to removing the rest of the engine and the gearbox.
http://i1246.photobucket.com/albums/gg605/davec70t5/Sierra%20Project/20130106_143455.jpg

And someone's been kind enough to cave the drivers window in :(
Not too much of an issue as i was planning to replace them all with polycarbonate

BRILLIANT! :slap: Maybe the best I'll hear for 2013....and it's only just begun :B_thumb:

....can't you just dig/drill/dremel the filler out?....or even sand it out and cover the neighbours cars in an inch of dust

Cool project though... a COS70R !

any updates regards the PM sent on the cvh sump thanks,

and on another note if you have the rear diff from an xr4i it will take power better and found good supplier for cv joints and bearings for the 100mm cv's, put maybe with T5 power you might opt for the 108mm cossie or granada cv's as these diffs are only meant to take up to around 180bhp so might blow a few in anger

sorry not make myself clear, yes diff is okay mean't the shafts. 1.8 shafts are push fit into the diff and won't handle power of a 230 bhp motor for long. xr4 diff or cossie will handle power but i would go for the larger 108mm cv's from mk3 granada to help the cause is what i mean't. but the 100mm from the 7.5 diff should do the job also

Dave86

Will have a look at diff options soon need to look more into the diff ratios too.
Cheers for the advice streaky
