Look at this video, it shows either an 850 or a V70 P1 with what i think is the worst ball joint wear ever. it just goes to show how rubbish the suspension setup is on our cars, Volvo really should have made the suspension design more durable............

Scantech mate - not the best pattern parts in the world. i think that's what they were pointing out.

just to add, I have no evidence of the ball joint ever being changed on my car ;)

I'm going to change mine anyway and I'm about to go and jack the car up and have a little play to see if I get any movement at all. I'd be suprised if your car has done 190,000+ miles on the original ball joints.

thats because your looking for them, of all the years & all the forums i've been on i can't think of any common problems relating to the suspension. There is the Scan-tech issues with everything they seem to make, but thats not exactly Volvo's fault

I have no evidence of wishbone, ball joint or shock replacement in the plod service sheet.

Look familiar?... the car I got my spaceball kit off (http://vehicles.pickapart.uk.com/breaking-vehicles/vehicle-details/volvo/s60-t-s/petrol/manual/40429)

The front suspension on these, although not as long-lasting as the rear, is pretty tough considering what it has to deal with. These ball joint failures are usually a sign of excessive abuse, poor regular maintenance (a ball joint wouldn't just let go with no warning whatsoever) and the use of substandard parts in repairs. Or, more often than not, a mixture of all three.
