Hi all, im new on here obviously so still trying to figure out were to post things in the correct place! Anyway my problem is i owned a clio williams before i bought my 850 R which i had on a policy with lancaster insurance. When i bought the volvo they let me change it over as i had a month left on my old policy. The problem now is when ive come to renew it for the year they say they cant offer a competitve quote this year. They are right there as its gone up from £300 a year to over £2500 which i cant justify paying. I did a quote on there website also before i bought the volvo and i came up as the same price as the williams. But when i go on there now they quote the £2500+. The funny thing is though they will insure a T-5R for £300 which is madness as its the same car virtualy. Has anyone had this problem with lancaster? Or can someone recommend a reasonably cheap insurance company to insure my R with?

Tell 'em to shove it mate.
Sounds like they don't want your business.
Mine (named driver on the wife's policy) is with churchill and its 570 fully comp with all the trimmings, on a 2003 V70 T-5 and I've been driving less than 4 years :D

hmm just tried them and they say they cany insure it! I dont know why im 27 with clean license, no convictions etc. Ive been with lancaster for a few years and they have tried screwing me over on renewal every year. Problem with policies like theres you cannot build up no claims bonus.

Just use confused.com or meerkat site each year.. You'll find someone that'll take your policy.

The last week or so I have been looking around as my insurance is due next week or two.
Went on the compare site and my insurance has gone down from last year the cheapest was axa £265 for the year thats on my S60R the only thing the excess is now £500 if I make a claim, but the windscreen is still free, most are now charging for new screen
That's with 14years no claims.
But I was looking at fitting a new exhaust but when I listed that the quote went upto £640 dont think I will be doing that any time soon.

Yeah insurances are crazy sometimes especialy when you get modding. They cheapo insurance was one of the main reasons for buying the 850R so im slightly mythed about it.

Insurance is a funny one as your occupation, address, value of car, etc all make up the rating. Some underwriters will ignore up to two SP30 convictions while others won't touch you at all with one conviction. I used to work for an insurance intermediary (middle man!) and from my experience (which does not include classic insurance btw) is that you have to change companies every year to get the best deal.

Every year, I spend about 20 mins and 2 phone calls to get the best deal - go onto a comparason site, get the top two quotes and then ring them to confirm the quote details - then tell them the other company quoted 10% less. Most New Business salespeople have between 5 and 10% discount that they can give in order to gain the business, although they will swear different because the more discount they give, the lower their commission! You have to be certain that both companies have the same details and that you do not confuse "compulsory excess" with "additional excess", as that's a common trick to get the quote down. Don't take the breakdown cover unless you need it and I would always take their bolt-on legal cover.

I'm a letting agent (high risk) living in Portsmouth (medium risk) parking on road over night (high risk) with business usage (high risk). Total ecxess is £200 and I have now no claims or convictions. My missus is a Teacher (low risk) and is a named driver - I pay £554/year.

You can always add a parent or older family friend as a named driver, as long as that person has a low risk job and no claims/convictions, which should reduce your premium - as long as they're not too old as premiums can go up with some insurers over the age of 55 as standard!! It all depends on who is underwriting the policy and what criteria they have offered at that time.

It's worth shopping around.

I'm paying under just £500 on my v5o all mods declared and 300 bhp includes personal business use and estimated
Miles of 15k per annum, I also have 9 points. It's via green light who specialise in performance and modified cars. Haven't had standard insurance for a long time as most are modified also I always include Legal Expences and would not buy insurance without it.

The reason you will have been priced £2500 now is because they will have that price on there system for you. Try another name /address (local) etc and see if the quote is any different from your previous one.
Don’t forget that comparison sites work on a commission basis with a select number of companies. They also have hidden charges if you want to amend anything.
Have you tried your local brokers as they will often beat there prices. When you do that at least you are talking face to face with a person not a “machine” with a script.

I would recommend you talk to a broker, mine saved me thousands this year:-

From £4500 to £1600. That is for 4 cars.

You could drop the Personal Accident part as the NHS does heroic so you don't need money for hospital treatment.

Mrs PA has been doing our insurance and so far Zurich is the cheapest at £216 fully comp' and most costly was LV via Chris Knott, so sorry to say after quite a few years with Chris Knott we will be moving on.

Personal accident does not cover hospital treatment - it covers legal expenses of the claim that ensues post crash and claim for recovery of excess. Your choice, but I would not drive a car without it as I do not have a family solicitor to do this for me or deep pockets to pay for it in the meantime either!!

I wouldnt care but they will insure a T-5R for the price i was paying last year (£390). But as soon as you change it to an 850R it goes upto £3000 even though a month ago they quoted me the £390 when i bought the car, should of took the damn policy out there and then looking back.

doesn't make any sense they are in the same insurance group, they are the same car virtually, last year mine went up £100 changing from a v70r to an 850r

Hi all, tried rh today lowest by far cheated a bit by putting the R on a classic policy limited to 5k a year,2 convictions no ncb, but you don't need them on a classic policy! £350 fully comp!!!! I'll just have to use the T5 for work, no commuting on the policy;) easy to speak to tho and no waiting for ages in A QUEUE!!!!!
