hybrid turbos

Hi,can anyone tell me if a hybrid turbo by turbo technics is worth getting.i knw that it does spools up better,boost in lower revs and last longer,but would i have any issues in the long.run for my 850 t5.

With such a turbo, a remap is very necessary. You DON'T want it to spool up fast and hard at low RPMs unless you're using 8.0:1 pistons with forged rods and race fuels. These turbos are of course good going to the 8000 revs with 3" pipes. Not your kind of a DD.

Thanks glock i have a remapped ecu done by HLM would that be o.k or would i need to get a custom remap just for the turbo.my worrie was the rods and piston especially as these spool up quick.

Depends how much power the turbo will produce,if not much over a 19t then you could probably get away with a 19t map but saying that to get the max out of any turbo it would be better to get a custom map for that turbo.
What about getting a turbo tuner ecu,this is the way i will be going.

Its a 15g hybrid turbo done by turbo technics producing 250-320 bhp have been told that the will work fine with the remapped ecu that i have.

that turbo does not cost 1500 pounds then and they do produce some good power ,i think the turbo is a t28 hybrid and good upto 1.5 bar max about the same size as a 19t.

I think to offer useful advice we need to know what the turbo is exactly. Custom mapping will make the best of ANY turbo you choose. However lots of folk run off the shelf maps with non-stock turbos. Don't be blinded by the word "hybrid" - that might just mean the manufacturer has done §§§§-all but re-badge it and added £100 to the price tag. Stock turbos with appropriate supporting hard/software make decent power and remain driveable.

Edit - must try harder to read the thread fully first time! Doesn't Andy have one of these on an auto with Turbotuner custom map?
