no reverse gear

hi guys to start its an auto t5 , was driving fine stopped for about 5 mins then put it in reverse and nothing ,then with a clunk it moved back but sounded like a bag of spanners , put it in drive and it struggled put it in 3 and it drove home ok , put it in drive whilst moving and it drove ok but gearbox very noisy , oil was changed 1000 miles ago , any help please , dont want to sell or break the old girl ,

The reverse clutch set for the autobox is worn off. You can get a donor gearbox and get it running or just replace the clutch. It's not too hard if you can get the box out of the car (to replace the clutch plates).
