Hi

I've had a message pop up the other day saying "ABS System Service Required" when I turned the ignition on.

Is this a fault with the ABS system or not?

Any codes pop up mate?
This could just be some crap in the reluctor rings. Have you disturbed any of the connections on the abs pomp/sender unit while faffing about with the ignition coils?

No, there's no DTC's on the OBD2 reader and I can't see anything on the display other than "ABS Checking" when I do the reading using the read button and the rear fog light button pushed 2 times.

I didn't go anywhere close to the ABS unit when I was working on the ignition coils so maybe it's just one of these Volvo bugs!

You've not had "Brake failure stop safely" have you?
If it keeps doing it then try unplugging the leads to the abs pump and cleaning the contact pins.

No, thankfully not. The only errors I've had are that "Bulb Failure Position Light" message which has now gone since I swapped the bulb holders around and installed new bulbs. I did this because one bulb had actually failed and then the other bulb looked dull by comparison so I changed the other one as well to get equal brightness on each side.

Anyway, I'm side tracking there but there's been no other brake warnings at all.

And you have only had this message once?
Ignore it mate lol.
If it keeps coming back then worry.
Probably some crap in a connection somewhere.

I quite like Laymans terms. :D It could well be some 'crap in a connection'..... :)

If only the Haynes book was so simple...

Haynes : "Carefully prise the cover from the side of.."

Me : "hammer a screwdriver into the top of... and rip it off..."

It would be even funnier if the Hayes Manual was written in Laymans terms...

"DIM Cluster - Removal and Destruction"

Tools needed: Chainsaw, Bonfire, Baseball Bat, Matches and Gaffa Tape.

1) Undo all the screws holding the damn thing in

2) Take the DIM out and put some tape across it

3) Get your chainsaw and cut the §§§§§§ in half

4) Get your baseball bat and smash the hell out of one half and then set alight to it on the bonfire

5) Drive the Big Swede over the other bit and then burn that as well (that's the DIM not the Big Swede)

6) Spend a small fortune on a new DIM and put it back in the car remebering to screw it in properly.

Sorry Martin, I just couldn't resist this 'new addition' for the Hayes Manual (written in Laymans Terms of course!). :saythat: :uglyhamme

I like the way the website has automatically sensored the word 'bu*ger'. So what happens if we want to type, I've fitted a 'de-bu*ger' on the ECU...? :D :mischievo

LOL mate, good question.

You could say you've fitted a de-bugging device/software to your ecu :P

Ok, I could re-write the line in the Hayes Manual so it reads:

"Get your chainsaw and cut the bugging in half"

I'm not sure it'll read quite as nicely though. :D

I remember a line from an old Haynes manual for my dads old Rover, it was something to do with compressing a suspension component and went something like this "get 3 or 4 large people to sit on the bonnet to compress...." ah, the good old days.

Yeah, it is a bu§§er of a job wording things :D
